22 LR Pistols Part Deux...

I grew up competition shootin' as a kid so when we were done shootin' we would clean and lube before goin' away till the next day.

I grew up with guns and knives and my old man bein' a mechanic made sure I knew how to take care of my tools, he always told me, "Take care of your tools now and you'll have 'em to fix your wheelchair when your old."

You know the old man's been dead since I was 15, back in 1975 and there are days when I remember one of his quotes or his, "...words to the wise", as he would say, those days I really miss him and wonder how I would have turned out if he was still a part of my life.

I'm getting a Ruger 22/45 this weekend. I'm excited as this will be the first firearm I own. I thought long and hard about this. I was originally going to get a 1911 style pistol, but decided to pick up the Ruger first so that I can more easily and affordably learn the fundamentals.

Great choice, it is a straight shooter. Which barrel did you get?

I'm getting the 5 1/2" bull barrel configuration. With taxes and fees it should come out to $345.

I really like my SIG Mosquito. I've been shooting more these last few months with it. Reasonably reliable, it likes to be clean. Its accurate for its size and weight.
I'm this close to getting another S&W mod 41. Another:rolleyes:, I should have never go of the first one...
They *do* cost the dollah money...
Happy shooting. .22s are cool:) .

Have a Ruger mk2/45 with a 4" bull barrel, great little gun, and a Ruger Mk1. The Mk1 is more difficult to reload, both to put rounds in the magazine and to remove the magazine from the firearm. But it has a crisper trigger than my Mk2/45.
I think I want one of Ruger's SA .22 revolvers next... I dont know...

Another thing you can do to pick up on "basics" is to go and shop around for a .38 or .357 a police dept or security company turned in. My father just bought a S&W with alot of holster wear, but new innards. Really a remarkable find.
BTW, the people who think that Revolvers are outdated, obsolete, or antique either have never owned a nice one, or really really like to bend over to pick up their brass.
And oh yeah, if you need more than 6 in a social situation, you should have brought a long arm (read: .223, .308, 12ga).

I just came back from the dealer. Just ten more days and I'll be the proud owner of a Ruger 22/45!

WHY oh WHY do we let go of things like Model 41's!? I'd LOVE to have that decision to make over again!! Best Regards--Jim SEMPER FI SORRY--Abaniko--I can't spell even when the word's right in front of me!! DUH!

I've had several but by far my favorite plinking pistol is the Walther P22. I've had several other 22's including a Buckmark and Ruger Single Six and still own Ruger MkII Gov't.

Last trip to the country, the MKII never left the case. The Walther is fun and accurate. That being said, if I was in a wilderness survival situation, I'd take the MkII. With it's 7.5" barrel it will reach out and tag your target. With shooting sticks, I can shoot clays at 50 paces no problem.

Also 22's are great training tools. I mostly shoot 1911's. the 22's help me get my form back.

I'm fortunate to have had my S&W Mod 41 for 25+ years -- great pistol  I'm considering buying a second barrel. Price on the new ones is substantially more than mine cost.

That thread from last year is what got my really interested in the Ruger Single Six. Love that gun! And my Beretta Neos and my Ruger Blackhawk. LOL!!

This is my favorite little .22 LR, although my Ruger Mk I or is it a Mk II is pretty nice too.
