I know the 25" Ak is special order, but does anyone happen to know the price. Not that I am thinking of one or anything.

With Uncle Bill to be back tomorrow, will let him answer then.

I think the 25" AK is $250, but not positive on that. As Rusty said, Uncle Bill will know for sure. Here's a link to one that Uncle Bill offered at 1/2 price a while back.

Thanks for the link and info guys, but you know it is like I said, I am not giving it a bit of thought.;)

Yeah, don't waste your money. I can't think of a single reason why anyone would be interested in 25" of razor-sharp steel that can chop through seasoned almond all afternoon and still shave hair off your arm. ;)

Feth, Josh is right, the 25" AK's are $250. What weight are you thinking of getting? I've seen them anywere between 3 and 5 pounds. Mine was 5 pounds, and boy could he chop.:D:D I'd recommend a 5 pounder like Godzilla;). It's one sweet knife, just ask Roger Smith (he owns Godzilla now).

Oh if I got one I would want the biggest nastiest beast that I could. I mean I am somewhat of a stout guy but I know that there is no way that I could use one for a all day cutting party, or even a couple of hours I am sure. So I might as well go for it all. That is one sweet looking AK that you have there wildmanh. Five pounds? Oh my.

Ha, ha I will high jack my own thread.

pendentive

I took a look at you Moose knife that you made. Nice work. Was that a convex grind from the spine to the edge or just the area before the edge? If I may ask that is and if you do not mind telling. I am working on my first knife and I am doing a full convex grind from the spine to the edge and wonder if you had any advice and/or suggestions, thoughts etc. 1/4in thick, steel is S7, 2in wide about 9in blade (yes a beast of a chopper, this place has effected me). Thanks

...oh and if you want to share anything about that 25in Ak. I am sure that someone around here would be interested.:)

Heber,
After all the chopping I'd have to say that a bad boy like Godzilla is not owned by anyone.
He's a force unto himself. 5 lbs. is a lot of steel!
I tried to carry him on a sam browne belt, but even that didn't seem enough. The karda and chakma are massive enough to stand on their own. (They are longer than my JKM-1)
So the option is to carry him to the site of destruction and let him go!!

Jane how do I turn off this crazy thing!!!!

I use my YCS for most of my hikes, but Godzilla glows in the back of my head when the big jobs need tackling.
I strike as steady as possible, but the massive power is hard to stop. You've chopped with one hand, but I don't trust myself that much anymore. After trying mano solo , I had a chop that twisted out of my hand when I became tired. Scared? The good fairy what sits in the sky was prolly laughin hisself into a stroke when I nearly soiled my trousers. I've seen your mishap and am glad that I missed a leg. An uber-man like Cliff Stamp could make him roll over and beg, but unfortunately I'm not.

Walosi was correct when he said that khuks give a fear of dismemberment. That's all I could think of when I had a chance to sit down and count my limbs.
That said, once you try a 25"AK, you never stop comparing it to everything else. It does indeed rock like a hurricane.

Great post. I would think that some extra pounds (body weight) along with strength would help keep it under control.

A horse-drawn vehicle, usually two-wheeled, used to carry artillery ammunition and 25 inch, five-pound khukuris.

Re: Moose/convex grind
For making a convex grind from scratch, I have followed Greg Covington's advice to flat grind until you have about 1/8" to 1/16" left on the edge. Then slack-belt grind it down to a sharp edge. Do this by pushing quite hard on the belt while keeping the spine gently against the belt as well.

Re: 25" AK
You missed a heckuva thread a few weeks back, apparently. Do a search on the word "Golly"...;)
