Do not try this at home. I am a trained professional. (Well, not really, but I've smashed a good deal of stuff.)

You know, with the forums being divided now, I'm not even sure where this belongs. Since it's definitely khukuri-related I'll start it here. I won't be offended if the mods decide to move it.

We've had a lot of issues here lately. People being banned, mods resigning, computer failures, possible zombie invasions -- you name it, it's happened. It's time for the healing process to begin.

In that vein, it's been quite a while since I've posted a video of myself destroying something with a khukuri so I figure that one is about due.

I had this MP3 player on my workbench. I won't mention who made it. (*cough* RCA *cough*) When I unpacked it, I tested it and it worked fine. It didn't get used for a while after that. Fast forward to last night. I needed it and it failed me, thus earning itself a place on the chopping block.

The stars of this little drama:

The stereo.

The result? (WARNING: SPOILER.)

The video is available here, in all its bloody glory. (It's 10 megs, so right click and "Save as" unless you want stutters and annoyance.)

I apologize for the crappy sound. As I've said in the past, my digicam records in .MOV format which Windows Movie Maker doesn't recognize, necessitating a conversion to .AVI first. The good news is what was a 38 meg movie is now a 10 meg movie. The bad news is that the image and sound quality get flushed down the toilet. It still gets the basic story across, though, and I think we all had a pretty good idea of how the ending turned out.

I couldn't for the life of me remember what kind of khukuri I was using until I was crunching the movie. Maybe my collection's gotten a bit too large for my own good? Anyway, the khukuri held up its end of the bargain in a spectacular manner and did a bit better than I expected. That old stereo had far more metal in it than I'd expected.

You know that scene in "Fight Club" where "lou" is beating up Bradd Pitt and Brad Pitt is laughing and saying "oh yeah!" "thats' it, Lou, get it all out!" ?
That's me watching this video.
I feel refreshed.

Fantastic. 25 inches is a magic length for khukuris in my opinion.
I have a 25" gelbu special and Im not giving it up.
That 25" chitlangi looks like a bad MOFO.
Really, a true weapon of war. I bet she'd look great with a falcatta handle.

Niiiiiiice! <applause>

A return to some of your classic stuff.

If you haven't yet submitted that to one of the various "Don't try this at home" video websites, offer it to RCA first.

I'm willing to bet that it would produce all sorts of critical acclaim at the corporate level.

Maybe a new MP3 player, TVs, DVD burners and players, stereos, what else does RCA make anyway?

I'm not sure that I'm RCA's target audience, Nasty. Especially after this. "Targeted," maybe.

The video? As always, you saw it here first. Where it goes after this is anyone's guess. I'd be concerned about a possible lawsuit if I had any money.

hehehe...I think RCA would buy it outright if it was offered to them. Imagine the value of it in training folks in customer satisfaction and warrenty alone!

BTW...I'm glad to see you with hair!

My computer never lets me load these videos, but I always enjoy these reviews anyway. Thanks for the chuckle, Dave.

Dave?

Good to see you're coping with new job stress so well.:D

RCA probably buys everything they sell from China.

Be well and safe.

I saw that 25" for sale Dave, and I'm glad you got it! I have one just like it in neem wood and it is beautifully made. But as mad as you were at RCA, I would have used your big 40" guy on it! I think one swing would have done it for you. :D

today a stereo ..tomorrow a tv...then a computer...then a piano..oh when will the hurting stop!!!..thanks for a good laugh i need that

Dave, your videos are great. If you compile them onto a CD I'll buy it. They should be saved somewhere, so everyone can watch. I think I refer people to your threads more than any others. Thanks for posting. Your stress testing is invaluable. Maybe a career there. Stress testers get paid (at least compared to me). ;)

Dave just sent me an email from a friend's place asking me to tell all you folks that he's had some computer trouble and won't be online until his new one arrives. The Chitlangi is still doing fine, no edge damage yet.

;)

"RCA, this one's for you." :D

Dave, you're scaring me, swinging at something that low. Be careful, brother.

John

It's hard to see in the vid, but I'm positioned out of line with my swings. I also wore shoes this time, for once.

There's no need to buy a CD; the majority of my videos are already online and free of charge. The URL is in my profile.

Hey Dave, thanks for the laugh and the test material. I used your video to see how my DSP setup was doing on picking up human voice.

Thanks for furthering my degree!
