25 or 30 degree inclusive for large schrade lock back LB7

I use 40° inclusive for blades hardened to the mid to medium-high 50's. That would include Schrade+ (440A)

The traditional angle used by knife companies back in the day was 22 1/2° per side.

Not me, but I'm sure someone does. I'm having enough trouble keeping mine in my lansky, it's so heavy.

Unless you're using it very hard, I wouldn't worry at all about taking it down to 25°. Most of my knives in comparable 'simple' steels (420HC, 440A, 1095, CV, etc) are at or even slightly below that, and the improved cutting geometry makes it worthwhile. The steel will still wear at the same rate, regardless of edge angle; but when the apex dulls a bit, the knife will still cut better at a lower angle, thanks to the thinner geometry. The better cutting is especially noticeable at 30° and lower.

A few companies are finally coming around to making their factory edges a bit narrower, even in these same 'simple' steels at moderate hardness. I think they've begun to realize the edges will perform better overall with thinner geometry at the edge (and behind it).

A simple and worry-free way to go about it, would be to go ahead and take it down to 25° and use it for a while. If you find the edge gets damaged a bit too easily at this angle, just add a microbevel to it at ~30° or so, or perhaps a little more, to make the apex a little more durable.

Was way off on my inclusive guess I did actually 50, 25 both sides and it came out hair popping sharp. Thanks for all replies.
