25 rail common khukuri shipment?

Is the shipment of rail common khuks still on it's way or did Pala cancel it before it got shipped?

I don't want to encourage Pala to bring in more of them, he should concentrate on keeping the HI's, the visiting kami programs, and the village khuk lines up to quality.

On the other hand, if he's got them ( the rail commons ) on hand for a good price...

I believe the order was cancelled. I don't hear anything about it and I am happy about that.

As Jim March posted somewhere, supply is easy, but getting them distributed here would take two more people which we don't have and can't get for the wages we pay. We all work for less than minimum wage and few people are willing to do that.

I don't have to do things for free.
I get to do them for the sake of love.

Basically, HI will do better under the current structure with as high a per-blade average value as they can possibly run. Knowing Bill and Pala, they'll still keep shipping some "good deals" in the Villagers and visiting kami pieces but IMHO even that's not where the core of their efforts should be.

How many people who have bought $35. villagers have gone on to the higher ones? This may provide a base for the future.

Bill, you just reminded me of a poem I read in Junior High. "The Willow and The Ginko" I believe. The last part of it goes:

My eyes feast on the willow,
But my heart goes to the Ginko.

Ginkos are rather plain but tough, just like the villagers.

The Newaris are the best business people in Nepal -- they are Baishra, the business caste. They also have a caste system within their own caste which includes kamis. But the Newari kami doesn't care about anything but beauty. His khukuris are engraved, carved bone handles with embossing. Scabbards have so much junk on them they weigh you down -- and the knife won't cut anything but they sell thousands of them anyway.

Our kamis call the Newari kamis "jewelers."
