2550 or ATS-34 Help!!

Before I ask this I must apoligize. Although I have been carrying this knife for 15 years or so, my ignorance of knives is complete and total. Someone asked me what kind of knife this was and aside from Benchmade, I couldnt tell them anything. So I began researching it and am confused. It looks like a 2550 to me. But the blade says ATS-34 on it. Isnt this another model of knife? My brother gave it to me and has passed away, I will never sell it nor am I looking for any value for it. I am just curious.
Also I apoligize for its condition, its been my daily patrol/duty carry for a long time now...

Looks like you have an early version Mini Reflex.

2550 is the model number and ATS-34 is the type of steel used. Later versions used 154CM steel.

Hope this helps.
 
There was a period of time when 154CM wasn't easy to find. We have to remember that Hitachi's ATS-34 was the answer for many. With very similar properties, it was a good choice and good steel.
