25OT, 154OT prices?

Hello all, I registered here a few weeks ago, just didn't have anything interesting to post 'til now.

I have found a new 25OT with the box (brown with a white sleeve) and a 154OT without a box. Both knives had a light freckling of rust, the 25OT was priced at $59 and the 154OT was $49. The manager asked $100 for both of them.

I looked on ebay and found nothing. Could someone tell me what these knives are worth?

Thanks,

Ray

Well, the manager was offering you a deal of sorts. The last MSRP of the 25OT (1993) was $49.95, and on the 154OT (1988) $22.95. But given the amount of time both have been discontinued, the retail prices he is asking are not out of the realm of consideration. Of course. we always want to get our knives at the best prices possible, but neither knife is far overpriced (25OT being near on the button). I would walk in with the cash plus tax, and offer him the combined retail, $75 plus tax. If he won't do that, just offer to buy the 25OT and leave the other knife and the rest of the money on the table while you pay for the one. Then play him...er....talk to him about the 154OT. He may rather go ahead and sell it or not. I have seen them go for fifty. But I recently bought one NIB for half that under similar circumstances. Good luck!

That's a great price for both knives. The 25OT NIB often sells for that much by itself. I don't know what search critera you used, but both knives are currently offered on eBay with recent sales figures for completed items as well. Those are great knives and a fantastic find.

357, it should be evident from the above 2 posts that I pay a lot more for knives than Ol' Coldger does. :D

I was leaving that unsaid, William. Fr'instance, the mint NIB 25OT Walden I just got for smooth fifty plus shipping. Maybe I just have more patience. Or maybe there is some Scot way back in my Irish ancestry. I used to drink cheap booze, so that is a possibility. But it was tequilla, so I don't know what that means. A Scot-Irish with poor taste?

No, El Toro, Pepe Lopez, and some other I cannot remember. I have pretty well settled in on Dos Didos, for what little drinking I still do. I think those two had some pure grain alcohol added. Or maybe potatos. Some day I'll venture South and find some worthy of the Nationals, but here, this far from the border, we get the stuff that is imported in tanker trucks, labeled whatever. Dos Didos is the only one I have found here that I can count on for smoothness and consistancy.
"Imported from the Los Altos region in the Jalisco Province of Mexico where farmers have grown agave for over 100 years. The tequila is produced in a family run distillery, exclusively from Mountain Blue agave plants that have matured for some 8 to 10 years."

Perhaps I can bring a box of Schrades to trade.

6 replies since this afternoon, thanks!

I almost went back in the store and offered the man $75 for the pair, but thought I would check on here first. The handles on the 25 had started to turn white but it would rub off with a little effort. I believe I will go back first chance I get and see what else he will do.

He also had 2 knives I had never seen before, a Schrade folding fillet knife and an Imperial survival knife in a camo sheath.

Thanks again for the info and advice,

Ray

357, you never mentioned what kind of store you found these knives in and whether or not the dealer is astute when it comes to his pricing. Codger stated the last catalog price of each knife and you can make him an offer based upon that. You can also add that you're offering less than his asking price because you happen to know that Schrade went belly up over a year ago.

If he says something like, "Hell, son, I can get more than that for them on eBay," you're screwed!

What's worked for me in the past year and a half, in hardward stores, gunshops and such is: "How about cash and I don't need a receipt".

I assume the Imperial Survival Knife is the M7S model, has sheath with two pockets filled with 'survival gear'. I recently (over) paid $125 for one new in the box with all accessories.

The wood handled filett knife is probably either the MA5 or MA6 'mighty angler' model, which can sell for $60 on ebay. Great knife.

And welcome to our forum!

Phil

Redshanks, it is a western wear store near my house. I guess they don't get many knife shoppers through there.

Textoothpk, you are dead on on both knives. The survival knife has 2 pouches on the sheath, one has a compass on it and the other is empty. I noticed MA on the end of the fillet knife boxes.

You all sure know your Schrades.

If it were me, I'd find a way to buy them all. See if the manager will do some sort of lay-a-way plan with you where you give him so much a week. Those are nice Schrades and the prices aren't out of line for new knives.
