Hi
Just acquired a pretty much unused 25OT from the main knife forum here in UK.

Just spent a few minutes checking it ....and admiring it, I have been wanting to get one for a few years.

It is pretty clean, the blades are full and the clip blade still has the remnants of the very toothy 'factory edge' that I have noticed on other Old Timers in my small collection.

the tang stamp says :

Schrade Walden
N.Y. U.S.A.

Can someone please confirm that this means it was made some time between 1946 and 1973 ??

Also, does anyone know what sort of pouch this should have?

I am sure one of you experts will be able to put me straight on the facts.

thank you so much -

Steve:)

Congrats Steve!
Schrade stopped using the Schrade Walden tang stamp some time in 1973.
The name was changed from Schrade Cut Co to Schrade Walden in 1946 or 1947 when Albert Baer bought them out.
Albert again changed the name to Imperial Schrade and the knives were stamped with "SCHRADE" starting in 1973.
I am not positive, but I seem to recall hearing that the tang stamps were changed about May or June of 1973.

I hope this helps,
Dale

Dale's information is correct. Predating the 25 OT, and running concurrently with it as an open-stock item is the 225 H, which is almost identical, except the handles are "jigged" brown delrin instead of sawcut. Some of the earlier ones had real bone. The "H" stands for "hole". Some of these one and two blade hunters, OT's, open stock and UH's did not have a lanyard hole, but the ones I have seen had the brass liners drilled for the hole, anyway. The pattern was spawned way back in the Cutco days, but at that time the main blade was saber ground, the handles were pinned on in a different way, and I'm sure there were other differences as well. I love these knives and have quite a few different ones, including many from the "scrimshaw" era. I believe there is also a 26OT, a stainless version, made for the European market only, in very small numbers.

Gentlemen,

thank you for your information.

much appreciated.

This knife will be a great addition to my collection...

maybe I need its UH buddy to keep it company now ?

;)

I think we can get a little closer in the date range for the 25OT.
The 25OT was 1st added to the line in 1964 and were stamped SW.
SW stamp stopped being used in 73.
If there were papers with the knife we might get a little closer but a 9 year span aint too bad for a 40 year old knife.

at least for my 25 OT here is the original sheath that came with the knife. it is not a SCHRADE WALDEN like yours just a poor SCHRADE + but hope this helps.

thanks very much for the date info

It certainly narrows it down.

:)

delmas2nd

nice looking old pouch and good looking knife.

I may have to search for a pouch, or just get a new one made. It will not be possible to find one in the UK.

thanks

thanks for narrowing down the date.

This is a fairly narrow time slot; I thought these were made for much longer than that.

nice pic of the pouch, thanks.

It is highly unlikely that I will find one in UK, so I will get one made, just to keep the knife safe from damage etc.

:)

pic of my 25OT, not very good quality, the light at this time of the year is very strange.

Very nice condition of an early version of the 25OT Casares! Dark skies this time of year can sometimes help with pictures, as you do not get washed out images which can happen when the sun is out.

The 25OT was made for many years but after 73 it was stamped Schrade.
Robert Clemente has it being produced till 1993 so another 20 years with the Schrade tang stamp.
