I just picked up a 110 with Alfred C. Buck signature on the blade and below that it has a gold etched banner that says "25 Years of America's Favorite Knife". The blade appears from the poor photos to be polished and on the other side of the blade it's engraved 0144/1000.

The tang stamp is as shown below:

Buck
.110>
U.S.A.

I haven't been able to locate it in any of my literature and I'm really curious about the odd stamp. Anyone know about such a critter?

got me stumped thou
i heard some thing some time before you got here
on that but cant recall what it was with the dot

Itsa 1987 and I remember talking about it. Was it when the began fine blanking?........cant remember for sure.

I'm pretty sure that ITE has a couple of plain 110's with that stamp. Maybe he can shed some light on it.

Dave, I went back thru the newsletters and did not find that stamp mentioned . Thats about the time of a full hollow grind . A lot of those stamps could be one of a kind . In the Dec. 2005 issue Joe wrote an article containing many unusual stamps of which some have been posted on here . But yours wasn't in the list . DM

I had it in notes about a dot and a stamp, so I checked it. Joe states, concerning 500 series:

Concerning single dot on 500 series tang stamps

The dots came about in the early to mid 1980's. I havent nailed that down yet. From what I have been able find out, the single dot was added when we went to Fineblanking those blades instead of conventional blanks. The dot was removed (I think) in 1986 when we started using our current date code system.
Hope this helps.

I'm guessing that this would eliminate my guess of fineblanking as a legitimate theory at least concerning the 110.

'Dots' were first used in 1967 then resurfaced in 1974 on the 2 dot 110's . They continued to be used at different times expressing different reasons . DM

Interesting about the Rockwell test.

Could Richard or someone share who might have done that and how often it is done on Buck knives?

It must be pretty darn rare.
