What is yalls thoughts on putting a heavier head on a short handle? I believe the original collins legitimus axes came on a 27" handle and that is practically what I am wanting to recreate. Just wanted some advice, thank you!

Best,

It works fine! Just gotta' be mindful not to let the handle break a horizontal plane during your swing for safety's sake. But there's a lot of circumstances where shorter handles really shine, even on large heads.

My friend Mitch has a boy’s axe cut down to 20” he carries behind his truck seat. He loves it.

I used it one time when his truck got stuck, to bust up some limbs and brush to stuff in a muddy pothole. Worked okay. I might have preferred my longer limbing axe, but it wouldn’t have fit behind his seat.
