...Ya know...I haven't "played" with the ol' Alpha Folding Hunters in quite some time as I've been carrying either a Sirus...Tempest or of late...a Catapult. Those are all great EDC's...no doubt about it. I just kine fergot how nice those big Alpha Folders really are. They slam open as quickly as an AO and that extra heft really feels great in the hand. I used to carry one almost every other day til I decided that "light" was the way to go...( gettin' lazy in my old age...:p ) I gonna be carrying that 277 again startin' today...Whata great knife...:)

I don't (and never have) EDC'd mine, but it is a great knife! Come hunting season she will be on my side again!

I have to agree Darryl. The Alpha folders are really nice, but they are a bit too big for me to EDC. Do you carry yours in the sheath or in your pocket?

Also, are your 277's ATS34 or 154CM?

I sheath carry mine at times using the horizontal feature of either the leather or nylon sheath.
Also put rubber grippies on it. I think these are the smoothest opening of any of the folders.
My rosie handles got a little scratched up a while back so I smoothed them down with 0000 steel wool and a couple coats of tru-oil have them looking like new.

...Messy...I use a Cordura sheath to carry mine as I totally agree that they are a bit too big to have them slammin' around in your pockets. They could really cause some "embarrassing" damage ya know...:eek:...LOL...I really prefer the Cordura over the leather sheaths for this type of knife and for the 110's and 112's as well. My 277's are of the ATS-34 lineage. I wouldn't mind having one with 154CM just to have the different steel types. I forgot how great the 277's feel in hand and how quickly they deploy...It is a terrific knife even tho it ain't a "new" knife...:thumbup::)

Guess I need to pick up some cordura sheaths.....

My 277 is 154CM but my local shop has an anvil stamped one in ATS34 that I have my eye on. I'd like to have one of each :D

Messy,, Do you by chance have one of the 110/112 transistion knives? If so,,,,you have one of the cordura sheaths.

What is a 110/112 transition knife? I don't believe I have one

You would know if you have one. It's the 110 frame that has both a 110 and a 112 blade. One blade etch commerates California, and the other Idaho. Fat rascal and comes with the same cordura sheath that the 279 alpha comes with, just marked Buck .

Give me a bit to get a pic made. I know Trax has some pics of one he made from scratch.

I started a 110/112 transition thread since we haven't kicked that knife around in a while..

I put a drop of oil on the pivot of my 277 last night and WOW! It opened nice and smoothly before but now it just glides open. Here are some pics I took last weekend:

Mine is on my belt every time I am out camping, fishing, hiking, etc. Greenbriar is no match for the 277!
