279T scales?

is there anyone making after market scales for the 279T? I love this knife, it is quite possibly the sharpest knife I own (even surpasses some of my more expensive pieces) but the rubberized scales are showing wear from how much I use it...I would like something that will last a bit longer and look good.

So is there anyone doing them?

Robert,

For a while there was a guy on Fleabay selling micarta replacement scale for Alpha folders. I just checked to see but none at the moment.

I beleive Buck sells replacement rubber scale. I actually replaced my rosewood grips with rubber ones on my 277.

Good Luck.

Thanks mate, I guess there is always the option of making my own and texturing with a dremel...but time is usually the factor of why I dont do much of my own stuff, and was wanting a fresh look to my 279.

Would be nice to mod such a great knife. :)

At least one of the regulars JB made his own scale out of Bocote. It turned out very nice. Keep checking this thread as he's out on our west coast and won't be along until later today. I think John may be willing to give you some insight on doing it yourself.

I always thought reddrumd should make a set of those nice jade scales for the liner locks like the Alpha's and Kalinga's and maybe even Vantage.

although that may take it out of the user catagory

I bought two from jb4570 that he had made new scales for. Here's the pictures of them. As Flatlander says, I'm sure he will be happy to share any tips for making them,

The Alpha Hunter (I have three) is a heavy enough knife that with Jade scales from reddrumd it would not be a user but it would sure would be a looker because of his work. Could be we could talk him into doing one for us.

Maybe the matched set. Jade 110,112,277,491 and 500:thumbup:

ooh my wallet hurts just thinking about it:eek:

oh and maybe a 301 for Craig:)

Hi Robert,

I sent you the link to the guy Flatlander was talking about. He is a custom knife maker and also customizes knives for customers as well. He also sell's custom Alpha scales and is a true craftsman. He runs a shop called "Muskrat man Customs", I sent you a link to his shop and I'll add a photo of a set of Dorado scales I got from him.

I did make a few set of scales for some of my Alphas as I did not like the rubber shoes. PBD has those knives now. It was a little work to make a set. However, there was a big delay looking for and finding the right drill bit for the handle holes. I did a thread on the project I'll post for your enjoyment.....lessons learned and all.

Wow thanks for all the replies guys! I love those turquoise handles but that might make the alpha a safe queen and I dont want that...at this point I am leaning toward orange micarta and it should outlast me owning it, which is all I can ask out of a user.
