I have two UH 285's. One has tang stamped Schrade, Stainless, 285UH and the other blade is stamped stainless. My other 285UH is tang stamped Schrade+, USA 285UH. My question is does anyone know when the first knife I listed was made and when did Schrade switch the tang stamp for this knife. My camera is broken so I can't post pictures yet but very soon. Thanks, Jamie

I can't tell you the dates. I don't know anyone who can. But they did not start using the "+" to signify stainless blading until the mid seventies, after the name change from Schrade Walden to Schrade. "SS" or "Stainless" markings were used prior to the marking with the "+".

Perhaps Arnold has a clue in his pile of 171UH's. That is a pattern which continued, like the 153UH, through the name change.
