Hi,

I picked up a Schrade LTD. 296WC trapper with “crimson birch” handles at Walmart. Dose anyone know anything about this model? Thanks.

I know they look real nice! At another Wal-mart in my area, they have a similar stockman on sale, soon as I make it back there I'm getting one!

I think they have stainless instead of the carbon blades that I prefer, but they are still great looking knives! The bolsters are nice and old-timey, too!

Hi Steve,

The box says “Schrade + Stainless Steel” I assume that is 440a? The bolsters look to be nickel silver. I like the looks and feel of the wood scales much better than the plastic handles Schrade uses on most of their slip joints.

I wonder why these knives are not on the Schrade site or in their catalog?

Hi Frank,

Last I knew, Schrade+ was 440A, but it's hard to tell.
As for the knife model, I'm thinking they might be special for Wal-Mart? I haven't seen the trapper and stockman in the same store. Now, they have a nice bone-handled trapper, same bolsters, gonna have to get that one, too!

When Schrade tries, they make a heckuva nice pocketknife!

The store I went to only had the trappers and some of those Schrade Vise-Grip multitools. They had a box filled with all sorts of other stuff under the counter that they said they weren’t supposed to put out for sale for some reason.

BTW, found this limited 98WC knife on ebay -

So far I have not found anything on the 296WC trapper on line.
