The BBQ starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th, 2008. This is an open invitation to all knifemakers, knife collectors, and knife knuts to an evening of fun and fellowship with those that love to talk about, make, collect and admire knives.

It's that time of year again. A great knife show, with the bonus of great food, drink, friends, knife talk, and general playing around with sharp things at my annual BBQ during the weekend of Blade Show West. No need to bring anything but your appetite, thirst, and a knife to show. All the food and drink is on me.

Please RSVP to scottickesknives@gmail.com so that I know how much food and drink to have ready for the BBQ!

This BBQ is NOT sponsored by Blade Show West, but is hosted by me as a way of bringing knifemakers, collectors and friends together who will already be in town for the show. Bring knives to show, whether you made them, or have collected them. Bring knives in progress. The KMG will be available to anyone who wishes to grind some steel, as is the forge, anvil, milling machine and any other tool in my shop. Of course, the BBQ will be going full speed ahead, as it was last year. We had some awesome onion burgers last year. This year, I'm leaning toward BEER BUTT chicken. If you haven't had Beer Butt Chicken, you don't know what you're missing. It's an incredible way to make chicken. Tender and moist on the inside (steamed with beer in a can up the chicken butt for 3 hours on a slow grill) and crispy on the outside with just the right seasonings. We might even have an informal cutting competition. I've got plenty of scrap 2x4's.

The barbeque this year is on the evening of September 27, 2008. This is Saturday night after the show. The show closes on Saturday at 6 p.m. giving all those who wish to attend, plenty of time to get to my house.

Last year we held this event on Friday night and many couldn't attend because of the Blade Show West awards ceremony/exhibitors reception held on Friday night. For this reason, we've moved the BBQ to Saturday night to avoid a conflict for those who wish to attend both events.

I hope to see many of you at this years BBQ. Last year was a success, and this year should exceed last years event.

Wish i could go!! Thats very nice of you buying everything... your really contributing the knife community! Have a great time!

That sounds like a lot of fun! And ditto to what Mr. Moose said.
I'm still trying to figure out if I can do the trip... sure hope so!

Scott, is there anyplace nearby where a guy could pitch a tent?
Really close is good, especially when there's beer involved;)

Actually, I might be able to get the wife to allow it in our back yard....it isn't large, but there is a flat area and it might be large enough. What size is your tent? I might have some other options in the neighborhood as well.

Scott, If I have any energy left after the show Saturday I may come by. I'll be doing the forging demo again this year on Saturday afternoon. Hopefully I can get help loading up my anvil. hint, hint

Are you going to bbq another goat?

Hey Scott, actually I have a hammock which can go anywhere pretty much, I just need two things to tie it to that won't fall over:eek:;)
Either that, or I can simply crash in my mini van. Just need an unobtrusive place to park.

The ferry gets to Port Angeles at around 7:45am on Saturday, which should put me there around noon for the show. I don't have much money to spend on knives, so the reason for my attendance would be to get to meet people, which is also the BEST reason I can think of to go! Your bbq, therefore, is my big draw:thumbup:

I'll have to pass this by the war room for the go ahead. I sure hope it works out.

I'd be more than happy to help you unload and load up! Just tell me what time to be there to help you set up and I'll be there. I see that you're forging from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., so I have a pretty good idea of when to help you load back up.

Well, we do have a covered deck and covered patio in the back yard. We live on a dead end street, so it's usually pretty quiet here too. We also have a queen size air mattress that sits on a frame, so it's off the ground like a real bed. We can definitely set you up comfortably.

In addition, I'll have my homemade light box and tripod set up for anyone that wants to take photos. I have a bunch of cd's to burn the photos onto, so that you can take your photos with you.

You're a hell of a guy Scott! Thank you very much for your kind offer:)
I'll let you know if I can make it before hand.
Thanks again- that's really super nice:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Scott, I normally set up before the show Saturday morning but that I can do myself. Its getting the anvil back in the truck after its over is usually when I need help. Glad you got the hint. Are you going to be doing the show?

I will be finalizing if I am making it to Blade West later this week , so I will know by Friday.

Scott were you still in need of thick copper for guards ? If so , shoot me an email.

John

I'll be attending only. I've been swamped this summer with my job, and haven't had the time to get enough knives done for it.

Not any more. I ended up using other materials. I'll be purchasing some copper later this year.

I'm also saving up a lot of water bottles. We're going to have some cutting fun. Bring a camp style knife to try out on some water bottles. It won't be a competition, just going to have some fun. Ain't nothin' better than exploading water bottles!!

just giving this thread a bump so I don't lose it!:)

I've been practicin my bottle cutting and I'm ready!

Looks very promising I'll be coming down for the show, and if all goes well, I'll be stopping by my favorite knife maker's shop for some hammer time along the way!

I haven't been excited for a road trip like this for a long time. Can't wait to shake some hands and have some fun:thumbup:
