2nd knife and wood finish question

Ok so i tried the whole pein and bolster thing and it came out really good! This is my second knife and actually the first is off being heat treated right now so this is my first from scratch to finish knife!

Question about the handle finish. I sanded to 2000 but not sure what to do to it now. Tung oil? Wax? Varnish or what? Any suggestions. I am new and just not sure and dont want to ruin it.



metal = O-1
length = right over 8 1/2"
blade length = right over 4"
handle material = mahogany with black spacer

For a second knife that is pretty well made. Fit and finish looks good as does your proportions which is always hard to get for a new maker. As for finish, gun stock oils like true finish are good and so is Danish oil but if you want a high gloss try CA glue. Rub a good thick coating of the superglue all over it with a rubber gloved finger, let it dry and cut it back with some 800 grit paper to get rid of the high and low spots and then repeat three times. After the last coat give it a light buff with some pink scratchless compound on a loose buff. It will shine up like glass. Hope this helps you out, cheers.

Thanks for the info! I was just hoping to learn how to pein or what not to do lol but it actually came out good!
