Alright a friend of mine commissioned me to build another machete for his brothers birthday. He told me to do whatever I wanted with it. So its going to have a long, wide stick tang, aluminum bolster, stacked leather washers, brass, purple heart and spalted maple spacers and a hickory hatchet fawns foot with a brass lanyard tube. Here are some progress pictures in order. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Sorry for the poor quality of pics. Im using a cell phone in a garage lit by flourescents, not the best combo.

Thats where I am at so far, should have more in a few days.

Here are all the washers/spacers

Then glued together

Roughing down almost at final shape

That stepped down portion between the purpleheart is going to get a jute twine wrap coated in epoxy. When it is sanded down it will look like the twine is encased in glass.

Here are some better pictures(I hope). I will hopefully be doing the twine epoxy wrap tonight on the stepped down portion.

Thanks guys,
epoxy/twine done last night. Oiled the handle and its looking good so far! Going to patina the blade and make a sheath next.

That is really cool. It's great when someone just loves our products the way we make them, but it's always amazing to see that someone took the time to customize it, especially to this extent.

Thanks! The Ontario machetes are really nice because they are a great affordable tool with awesome steel that makes them ripe for customizing.
I have plenty more ideas to make out of them!

tobiism,

Nice job. Please post more pics when the patina is complete.
John Wyllie, former Ontario President, used to talk about "making silk purses from sow's ears".
I believe you have done just that.
