Itty bitty coal..(see that lil orange cherry?) it was small but burned for longer than a minute...I did not blow it into flame as I was in a city park.. and didnt want to go to jail

Strong work, man. I still want to try that method. Maybe some time next week I'll get the chance.

What is wrong with going to jail? :D

Nah, good job on getting the coal, Riley

Congrats RR. I have yet to master this one. I have a bunch of pre-shots started up of my attempts, but never post the failed ones until I get a coal. Good show!

Great work John, I knew you would get it. Bet you're happy I put that in your pack now aren't ya???

Riley... that's awesome.

Let me show you a trick that may help....

Carve your spindle with a 2 stage tip. Your coal will form on top of the fireboard and off the ground. It's easier to start off and more efficient

Like this... (the first stage is like a dull pencil point and the second stage is almost flat to maximize friction.)

Huh, When we were trying it in the field I got a tiny coal that formed at the top. I didn't think that was suppose to happen, so I tried to force it don the crack, which snuffed out the coal. Why don't you tell me this stuff before hand?

Kem...

My skills mentor, Allan Beauchamp has a page on the 2-stick, here

He was a few other web articles, here.

Lotsa good info there......

Rick, So I;m guessing the flat beveled section make friction at the top of the hole whle the point actually keeps the drill stable? and the space around the finer point is where the dust builds?

Thanks a bunch, Big Rick.

BTW, this is totally plutonic and meant as a compliment...you look hawt in that avatar pic. You sexy hunk of manbeast, you. I dig them boots, what kind they is?

Very nice. May have to add those to a wishlist.

I also just noticed that, for some reason, I totally misspelled "platonic". Why I put a "u" in there I do not know.
