Well, ever since coming to this forum, buying a Becker and realizing how amazing the knives are for their price, I've just been stuck on what I really want. I want them all, but funds don't allow that at the moment. I'm in the market for an "all-around" camp knife. I considered getting a custom chopper or something to meet my needs, but then I thought about the price of most of them. The Becker lines are great knives and great prices, so I can't pass it up.

My question is...which one? Bk2, Bk7, or Bk9? I already have an Esky, and I plan on getting a sheath for whichever I choose so I can piggyback the Esky for smaller chores. I know each of the three knives have their strong points and what they're meant to be used for, but which would you guys choose for one caught in the middle? The 7 would seem a good choice, but I want some input and some advice from you guys who actually own these blades. Which one do you guys take out most?

Thanks ahead of time, guys.

I don't have a 2 or a 7(yet), but I do have a 9 and an Eskabar. They make a great pair IMO. I bought a kydex for the Eskabar from azwelke, and it fits in the 9's sheath pocket perfectly. I take em camping with me whenever I go, and even take them on the mower with me to trim some of the low hanging branches as I mow.

I think the 7 would be a good choice as well when paired with the Eskabar. IMO the Eskabar and 2 are two close in size. When I'm gonna piggyback two knives I usually prefer a sizable difference in the two.

Just my .02¢

The 2 is the end all be all can do it all blade. With that said if you have another blade with, it can fall to the way side for some smaller or larger chores. Since you already have the 14 id say go with the 9. It can baton through massive things and chop like hell, while u use the 14 for the small camp chores and prepping/cooking/ preparing food

Bk2 is a good start, My first was a BK7, the Bk9 is also awesome.

How about all three......

I really wish. Really wish.

About the BK10, I wish. I'm not a Beckerhead yet. :(

Question for Clichten. Why would you choose 9 over 7 when it comes to chopping? Do the 2" change much?

more momentum due to the larger blade would probably allow it to chop...somewhat better
i am curious if the bk2s superior weight would allow it to chop as well or worse than the 9 though

(just got a 2 today, no 9 to compare it too :( )

I say go for the 9 considering you have a 14 already. It will make a good pair & you're pretty much covered.
Real question is: "What do you want?"
Any whispers in your ear?

The BK2 is a great camping knife. You can do a lot with it. It chops very well for a little knife and takes batoning well.

There is no VS this or that knife in my mind. Get all 3 and you won't be bothered deciding anymore!
That's what I did , and after using them for a while realized I use the 7 most of all. So I bought a second one. She's sitting in stripper right now.
Nothing wrong with owning a bunch of Becker's. They are all great value so it is a good investment.

For myself , If it really came down to one it would be my 7. Jack of all trades and pretty damn good at all of them.

I think the 2 inches does give you not only a long more forceful chop, but it also allow you to baton and chop a larger selection of wood that a 7 wood knot (pun intended) either one is gona do you well, but if I HAD to pick only one to piggyback with a 14, it would be the 9.

I used to think the 7 was a compromise until I bought one. It is very well balanced. The compactness of the BK2 might be the deciding factor for me. I won't carry the 9 on my belt, and the 7 is about the limit for me(5'9") on the belt.

I won't carry the 9 on my belt,.

Me either. Mine is lashed to my pack. The equipment is the 9 on my pack, 2 on my belt (soon to be replaced by the 10 maybe), and 11 around my neck. On the bag its no burden at all, on the belt its like a small man hanging there :D

Well, for some reason, something is just telling me get the 7 because it seems like a cross between the other two blades. Like you guys said about the 9, you don't carry it on your waist. I planned on carrying the blade on my hip, and also perhaps build some kind of rig for sling carry or something. I think I'll rule the 2 out for now, simply because I have several knives around the same size as the 2, but no big choppers like the 7 and 9.

It's still a toss up between the 7 and 9 for me. I don't have a dedicated pack right now, so I can't just strap the 9 to it when I don't feel like carrying the baby around on my hip. I'm just not sure if I want to sacrifice that two inches, because like clichten said it does make a difference. Length and weight wise. So hard to make a decision.

I only have the 2, and I definitely recommend it. It's a crowbar with a sharp edge that can still do small and large blade chores reasonably well. I usually pair it with machete and multitool and all needs are met. If you want something that you can beat the mess out of and not worry if it'll fail, you can't beat the 2.

Okay, I almost (almost) feel qualified to talk on this. *clears throat* I own the 9, the 2, the 14, and (3) 13 Remoras

One of the 13s has a permanent place in my 9 sheath. Great for small tasks and has a razor edge. The 9 itself does any of the big work, but the 13 is agile in hand, and great for utility/prep work. I personally don't have a problem carrying around the 9 on my hip. Retention is okay, I'm not going to do acrobatics while I carry it. And if need be, there are some holes on the bottom I can run an elastic bungee to and strap it to my leg for a very tight hold. (I'm not crazy, you don't lock it down to pinch all the time. But the elastic will give a while lot more than 550 cord when you gotta move)

My 2 is great. It's the knife I'd choose if I had to cut through a rabid lawn mower and then a tank. I had my 2 eat baling wire without me realize it an all I had was a slight fold in the very edge. Easily removed. The 2 is your go-to knife. It is a beast that can do anything you need from batoning, the lawnmower thing, tanks, open cans, zombies. You name it, the 2 shrugs it off. I often pare my 14 with the 2. The 14 is easy to get out for the small stuff, I have my 2 and a high angle (50-60 degrees) and my 14 and a low angle (40-50) so it's sharper for detail work. While the 2 is fer, well. Anything.

I do not own a 7, but I'm thinking about it. As I understand it, it's a short 9 with a changed tip that makes it easier to carry and wield, but not as useful for chopping. If you're going to process wood, get a 9. If you want a camp knife, get a 2 (or tweener in a bit) The 9 has a spot for a 20$ 13, which basically is a smaller 14, right in the sheath.

Me? I'm getting a 10. I need to get 3 more threads started in my mad dash to a BH number. And I'll be on that in the next few days. Heat-be-damned there will be... stuff. I do! With my knives! ... Maybe a sharpening thread... My 9 needs some love after the last contest. Poor uh... BEAST ANGRY AT THE WORLD... (was gonna call it 'thing') Cut through and processed about five 3' saplings. Still has a good edge, but I'm a perfectionist.

Their all real good, Close your eyes and point to one. Make that your 2nd becker.
