I’m getting back into knife making after 3 years , I was wondering what are the best 2x72 belts or best for less money. I use to get Norton blaze belts. Just need some insight on what’s going on in today’s word of abrasives. Thanks

I’ve used both the vsm and blaze belts and I’ve found the edges of the blaze belts to be more crisp and give better plunge cuts than the vsm and they tend to let quite a bit longer for me. Both are good belts and just depends on what your using it for. I do all my grinding post ht and find the blaze very consistent in performance and how cool they grind.

Best belts for doing what? Rough grinding? Finish grinding? Handles?
Different kinds of belts for different tasks.
For rough/pre-HT grinding lately, my last 2 orders I've been trying the VSM ceramics and am coming to the conclusion that I like the 36 and 60 grit as much as the Norton Blaze, but don't like the VSM 120 grit belts at all.
For use on materials other than steel, I recently got some open-grit woodworking belts from Supergrit and really like these for wood/handle work. They don't load up and a quick run of the vacuum nozzle over them cleans them up quick.

What we like depends a lot on how we grind. How fast the belt runs, how much pressure we put on the belt. I still like the Norton Blaze belts.

VSM in 50 grit and 120 grit

I like the Hermes 346J in 100-400

Trizact (Gator) in various grits

I like the VSM 60 and 100 a lot.

I recently bought a package deal from combat abrasives that included 60 and 120 grit belts. Have only tried the 60 so far. I've used 3 belts so far and 2 have had serious defects (patches of grit missing, random bumps where the grit is higher).

I’ve always been using 3m ceramic belts u til I get into the higher grits. How many knives can y’all get out of a set of belts, profiling and cutting the bevels in in preparation of heat treating? I just did ten knives on Sunday and burned through one 36 grit, two 60s, a 120, and a 220 grit belt. Does this seem reasonable?
