2x72 Misting System

The higher the air pressure the more the mist cools. At around 90PSI it will make your fingers numb.
A small $10 water pump like the ones used in aquariums will also make a better flow rate, but as shown in the video, a gravity/siphon feed will work, too.

The cheap mister clones sold on Amazon and other places work just about as good as the actual Kool-Mist units for 10% the cost.

I recommend getting a bottle of Kool-mist #77 concentrate to mix in the water supply jug. A gallon isn't cheap, but will last a very long time.

BTW, $13CAD is $9.16USD.

These are very handy ,you can also mount them up to mag switches and move them to machine to machine i highly recommend them .

My 2x72 is 90% aluminum so I had to use clamps. The only issue is really capturing all of the water. I should have shown the 3 pails on the floor where water drips. But they are a life saver especially for something like a sword that is too large to keep dunking.

I live in Central Alberta Canada (Edmonton) and my hands actually get cold from the cool water continually spraying.

I gotta get off my butt and get my compressor going and the mister set up! My grinder table has a stainless cover on it, so I will probably add some low sides and direct it back down to the spark collection tank.

If you have an aluminum grinder, get some double sided vhb tape and tape a piece of mild steel to the bottom of the mister unit and double side tape a magnet to the grinder frame? Or epoxy? I plan to vhb tape a magnet to the mister unit and then stick to the Ameribrade with the magnet so it's re positionable.

I thought of stuff like that, but I have moved it around quite a bit and am finding the ability to clamp it in different positions valuable. My grinder tilts to horizontal as well and need different points. I have even used a tripod to clamp the mister to when I was in an awkward position. Of course having a good selection of clamps (which you can never have too many of) always helps.

Ah, ok. Would velcro be an option? Velcro pads/strips?

I figure if I do the magnet on the mister piece itself, my grinder and tool arms are steel, so I think I should be good. Wife is stuck late at work training, so maybe I will get to play in the garage, or set up the compressor in the house and torment the dog with it. Blow off all his winter coat and blow his hair back at him!

Sorry, working a 16 hr shift with only a few hours sleep...kinda loopy!

do what works. I thought of permanent mounts, but got used the clamping. Its quick easy and movable. with an AL grinder, the magnets werent and option. One problem with the magnets might be the dust they will collect and it will "magnetize" the steel (I think) and have the dust cling to the steel on your grinder.

Ah, ok! I use a magnet based work light on my grinder, I will have to see how much dust is sticking to it!

If your machine is aluminum, or there is no convenient place to put it, just tape or screw a metal plate where you want to stick the magnet.

I run my mister usually at 60 psi and with a 1”wide radius platen I can fully grind a knife post HT without having to dip the blade to cool it. I do my rough grinds running my Brodbeck at 70% speed and with a 50 grit vsm belt. The mister really speeds up grind time by not having to dip as often or worry about heat.

Full flood has a great use in production shops, but most hobby shops can't handle te water issues.
I find misting works much better at 90PSI. It creates a dryer mist that is very cold. 60PSI will work, too. It creates a wetter mist. Below that, the water is mainly spraying on te belt with air pushing it. You will go through a lot of water coolant this way. At 90PSI a gallon of coolant mix lasts a good while. Having sufficient CFMs isn't as big a deal, but you do need a reasonable size compressor if you do long grinding sessions. A 10 gallon tank size and 2.5CFM at 90PSI works jreally well.
