I see a 3 and a smaller 2 on axes I look at and never thought much of it until recently.
I am redoing a head that actually weighs 3lb 7 oz. Stamped lightly on the side is a 3 and a 2
Also the same axe has a 3 stamped on the bottom just forward of the eye.

Any one know why?
thanks

3 2 is for 3 and 1/2 lbs total weight.

If there is a number on the bottom of the eye that is usually tied to the individual maker mark.

Or else bearhunter will be able to tell you.
