Once more I've thought about "what ELSE do I need in this life"
This time it was something compact. Something not to scare away all the girls in the room, yet usefull not only for paper cutting.
Another important points.
-- One-hand opening (just like it)
-- Solid-felt handle ( linered, or something else.)
-- Plain, V-ground edge.
-- Of course, I don't intend to look for trouble, but in case there is nowhere to run... You caught what I mean?
-- $250 max. Saving for a lo
Models I consider.
Spyderco Lil Temperance.
BM 721/722 Mel Pardue.
Emerson Mini-SQC
If you have any piece of advice -- thanks beforehand!

I have lots of folders in different size ranges. One that is nice enough looking that all the women I know that have seen it think it looks nice is the Delta Z Osprey with the red maple handle scales. It is in the size range you mentioned, it is a liner lock with an interesting shaped opening hole and a nice overall shape. Check them out. They have a site right here at BF.

Man, I hate it when folks jump in with "Sebenza!," but the price range is usually lower than $250.

Buy a used Sebbie and never look back.

Also, I would look at the customs for sale forums here and elsewhere. DDR Apogees, Mike Obenauf Model 1s and 2s, etc, pop up not to far out of your range occasionally.

For WAY under what you are looking to pay, you can get a stainless Spyderco Delica...A GOOD, solid folder.

Take a look at the Seki Cut, Small Bob Lum Encounter; 3" scary sharp D2 blade, choice of scales: micarta, G10 or Aluminum. About $80.00 direct from www.sekidirect.com , free shipping. A solid, good looking, functional, top quality piece. I ordered on a Monday from Japan, delivered that same Thursday to Illinois. Is that service or what!:p

I second that! It's hard to be the ergonomics of the Delica and the SS scales make it a very sturdy knife.

The Lil' Temperance is a Spydie that will easily take care of all your utility/self defense requirements with ease.
I just received a Lil' Temperance Trailing Point this past Monday, from a recent trade, and haven't been able to put it down since.

Spyderco wasn't messing around when they designed this one....

Blade: Flat ground 3" PlainEdge blade(4mm thick) of CPM440V steel that can hold an edge for protracted periods of time.
Blade style choice: Modified Spear Point(Leaf) or upswept Trailing Point(Rhino).
Ergonomics: EXCELLENT, a design that really becomes a part of your hand when you grip it.
Lock: Spyderco's super strong Compression Lock that can handle up to almost 800-inch lbs!!

Handle: THICK G10 slabs, with nested steel liners, provide an awesome non-slip grip...a great plus for such a great handle design. You don't have to worry about this handle flexing under heavy use. ;)

pics by Dman at this thread HERE. ;)

The design may be butt ugly to some, but Spyderco designs its' knives as high performance cutting tools....not knives that just sit and look pretty. IMO, you can't find a better, stronger, common pocketsized knife with a 3" blade anywhere. ;)

To some of you out there that may think this post looks familiar,
I copied it from my post at this other thread HERE. ;)

Good Luck. :D

I agree with 92degrees. Search the for sale forums and you may come up with a nice used Mike Obenauf folder and it would be hard to beat at the price point you've set. This "kid" learned from one of the best tactical folder makers out there, his daddy-in-law Kit Carson! His knives show it too. I mean if your going to spend that kinda money you might as well get something custom.

Think Ti Salsa. I don't know about the prices in Russia but it should be less than 250USD in the North America

Thanks to everyone replied!
The only trouble wiht Sebenza, or any custom stuff is that in Russia you need to have a certificate, that knife you carry is not a weapon. Otherwise it can be confiscated for examination. This also makes on-line buing a bit... iffy ( unless anybody has a Russian certificate... does anyone?).
And about MOD -- what about Hornet? It looks like a fine option and is fully legal.

From personal experience, I can recommend either of these knives. Both are very solid designs and are well made. Both will work great for general utility use. I think the Lil' Temperance is much better suited for self defense. Either knife will serve you well and is worth the price.

You can't go wrong with any of the smaller Spyderco's out there.
Delica is a good knife.

I have the small version of the CRKT Urban Shark. It's a nice looking knife and it's quite stout. I've used mine pretty hard for a year now and have been pleased. Pretty cheap also. 30 dollars or less here.

Python,
If you do not care about knife pretty look please think about BENCHMADE Griptilian – 551 (pictured) or 550 what are not mentioned yet in this thread. I suppose they could be obtained online within $60-65 limit and make really great bang for the buck. Should fit your mentioned requirements by all means!
They are significantly stronger than typical lightweight knives (SPYDERCO Delica is the classic example) due to steel frame supported handles and could fit heavier cutting tasks.

Quite naturally they are not as easy to carry as Delica, the handles are rather onto thick side but not any tragically. On the other hand thicker handles are more comfortable to handle performing somewhat heavier cutting tasks, provide better force application and leverage. I carry my 551 for more than half year and I’m very satisfied with its performance.

Still not too expensive to regret putting them into real life use.
You can find more info in my writing in PROREZ magazine issued in Moscow. I don’t remember was it in recent or the next to recent issue...

Pyton,
I just considered that if you would like to go with, say, full program tactical folder (G-10 scales, full-length steel liners etc.) you probably could take a look onto BENCHMADE 730 Ares.
ares_02.jpg

if I recall well, visiting Moscow in November 2001 I saw them in the stores so they should be certified for unlicensed sale and carry. You could call ELITSTEEL at esteel@elnet.msk.ru to check this matter...
BTW, very versatile shaped blade and decent handling comfort. Colored handles (purple-black and green-black versions are available) provide “less-tactical” appearance and the knife causes less unwanted attention than similarly sized one with black handle. The blade length is somewhat more than you have specified (about 3,5 inches), however the size is just right for urban concealed carry, it is noticeably easier to carry than BM 710 or full-sized AFCK.

Edited to add: as to MOD Hornet, since nobody answered your question so far. The handle doesn’t work for me. It is far less comfortable and secure than mentioned BM’s and Spydies.
