Breathtakingly beautiful.
Is the mammoth fossilised or preserved in some other way ? Do the tusks simply last that long in the mud or ice ?
cheers.

Not answering for Ken but I do know a lot of it like that is called bark ivory and usually preserved in permafrost.

That knife is beautiful.

Its pretty cool to look at the back and see how solid it is. The way its attached with both
cyanoacrylate gel and mechanically with pins I'm not worried about it going anywhere. At
10,000 plus years old it will probably be around a while longer.

Thanks Rich-so its kind of freezedried?
whatever the case its phenomenal!

Getting some ideas here J? Visions of mammoth ivory and walrus tusks dancing in your head? Maybe some checkered pearl?

Haha. Osser Norfolk in crackle mammoth!

Ken, beautiful knife. I love it. Care to explain in detail how you do the rat tail/threaded bolsters?

Looks fantastic! Is there a name for that shield shape? Also, if it's not an improper place to ask, how much does a custom slipjoint cost? Ballpark is fine as I can't afford it anyway. I can just drool over them for now, until my ship comes in.
