I'm in the market for a new camping knife and I was wondering if there were any traditional fixed blades that might fit the bill. Any suggestions would be appreciated though I'm looking for suggestions on production knives. I'll go custom if I have too but I would like something "off the shelf" so to speak.

Criteria:
Needs to be new. I like the stains and scratches to be from my adventures so new production is a must.
Carbon steel. 1095, 01 etc
Full tang
3.5-4 inch blade
3/32"-1/8" thick stock
Some sort of finger guard
Preference for wood over stag or bone

Last time I went out with these two. BRKT Aurora and a Case trapper. The Aurora is A2 tool steel and takes a wicked edge. Depending on your definition of 'finger guard' it may not fit your requirements.

Edit: Drat the Aurora is 4.5".

I don't have many traditional fixed blades but GEC has the H23 that fits your criteria. The handle is 4 1/2" so the blade (from the bolster forward) is also 4 1/2" with a 3 7/8" cutting edge. I have one of these in Stag with the end cap and one with Black Micarta that has a lanyard hole instead of the end cap.

There is a new thread in this forum,"Blade Show Bootty", that has one I could recommend. Ray Kirk from Oklahoma. He uses 52100 carbon steel and has the heat treat nailed. I have cut with one of his 52100 knives and wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to anyone. Also Ray is just a really nice fellow.

True, but the Liten Bror model is a downsized Aurora and is 3.8"

edit: oh, but it's CPM 3V. While technically not a stainless, it won't be nearly as reactive as something like 1095 or A2.

By camp knife are you thinking of the knife being used more for cooking, as in slicing, or maybe baton work for firewood, or??? Some grinds are better for some uses. Sometimes we are even forced to buy more than just one knife. It can be a sacrifice, but a guy has to do what a guy has to do. ;)
