3.5 gen 4 detent question? More an observation!

So, recently picked up a production skinner and noticed the detent was quite a bit stronger (love it by the way) then my slicer, warni and spanto. I immediately ripped it down and noticed the drill hole detent (whatever you want to call it) on the blade that the detent ball sits in when the blade is closed is a hair bigger.

I loved it so much that I immediately started the hunt for the bowie production. I picked one up last week and ripped it down to investigate the detent on the blade and observed the same bigger hole but this time the detent hole is drilled straight through the blade. Does anyone else have the hole drilled straight through? Is this going to be the new norm. Because if it is IMO this should be considered a new GEN simply because the flipping action is 10 fold different. It is a manufacturing difference so would it not constitute a new generation?

I really hope all the future productions have a similar detent.

I sure do like it. Can anyone confirm if there was any changes to the size of Ricks detent balls..

I am happy to hear it. I have been detent moding RHK production folders for a while which is essentially the same thing. I'll use a 1/16 or even a 3/32(if you can find one) drill bit and make the detent ball rest hole deeper and the slightest bit wider. It's amazing the feeling the moment you put the thing back together. You can feel the preload when flipping open and the suction upon lockup. Rumor has it this voids warranty but I've sent at least one modded knife that I can think of for certain and never had any issue. And with knives built so well and so simple it's rare that I haven't had much need for warranty, even with some of my hard use XMs. It makes sense that RHK is accommodating more of what people are wanting to see out of a flipper. I don't know about the ball size but if I had to guess I'd say no, just the holes. Otherwise they'd theoretically be right back where they started with a detent ball that doesn't have enough catch. Can't wait to check out one of the new XM models. I've just been stuck on a custom kick lately. But I'll be back eventually to RHK daily use. I always seem to be.

To those who read the above Post. Not a "Rumor".... Modify your knife and your Warranty is Voided. Proceed (or not) at your own peril.
As for discussing unauthorized modifications embellishments etc - Read the Stickies.

We DO NOT discuss in this Forum. Hopefully it gets left at that BUT if any Question OR Comment - PM me.
