my first purchase was an Ontario gen II sp50 as a chopper and now i dont have any idea for last 2 knives ( boot knife and common slicer). From what i read on forum a slicer should be a 440c SS because of the corrosion resistance but im curious about 14C28N zero tolerance models, i want to know if this 14c is more rust resistant than 440c and if it holds an edge as well. For the boot knife ( can be used as a neck knife too) im thinking at zero tolerance 0150 boot knife since its s30v and very corrosive resistance. Does anybody know the blade thickness of 0150? I couldnt find it anywhere

There is no "BEST" of anything. Anyone that claims there is, is full of bull or just plain ignorant.

There are tools that may be optimal for your needs, but that's it. If you like ZT, go ahead and buy them, then write a review on your experiences with your new knives.

well first of all thank you for your reply bro. im new here so i would like to know the differences between 14C28N and 440c regarding edge holding, toughness and rust resitance. i found a single topic between those 2 types of steel but no good answer, most of the time 14C28N is compared with s30v. My s30v blade will be the ZT 1050 boot knife and i wanted for a slicer with 5-6 inces blade another zt like 0170 but im not sure what good is 14C28N compared to the very well known 440c

yeah mate first problem you had was the paracord. Tip : soak it 10 minutes and then strap it and when it dries off it will be very tight. for chopping knife i would recommend 5160, D2, A2 , M4, 52100 ( s7) st 77 or sr-101

Yeah i know. The tightness wasn't the problem. It was the smell lol

In my experience, 14C28N is about equal to 440C, both good all-arounders, S30V will be about the same in rust resistance, toughness, but have better edge holding because of the vanadium.

darn, so now i have to buy 2 s30v's : 1. zt 0150 and 2. ??? MIL-TAC CS1 or ZT-9 bayonet?

I had a 0150 for a time and felt the handle was too short for my avarage hands. I didn't like how the butt flared out, considering it's length. I'm not sure on it's exact thickness, but it's on the thin side, definately not overly thick.
Unfortunately, I can't think of many similar knives that are better, considering the quality and country of origin. If you can find one, the Gerber Mark-1, and Command 1 are good knives. But they're bigger, and I'm not sure about the steel they use. The Gerber Guardian Back-up is a decent knife of comparable size with a nice sheath. I had trouble getting the ones I had to take a good edge however.
I've never handled one, but the Fallkniven Garm may be an alternative worth looking at.

14C28N holds an edge on the order of Buck 420HC.
14C28N takes a razor edge with little effort. It gets much sharper than 440C does with the same amount of work.
14C28N will not hold an edge anywhere near as well as 440C when cutting abrasive material.

440C has carbides, which give it good wear resistance. 14C28N does not have carbides.

I have no information on the relative corrosion resistance. I've not read any complaints about either alloy lacking in that regard.

I like 14C28N as an alloy for EDC. Even though it does not hold an edge as well as 440C, 14C28N gets wizard sharp with very little effort. And Kershaw hardens it to the 59-60 realm. Very good stuff for EDC.
