Hi Everyone, I read recently that the three highest proirity pieces of equipmentfor hunting are as follows: (These are after the firearm ofcourse) Excellent footwear, the very best optics and the very best cutlery avalible. These were items were stated by the world famous big game hunter Jack O'Conner in a recent hunting article I read.
My chioce for footwear would be White's or Danner boots, Swarovski or Leica for the optics and Chris Reeve Knives. Cya, JC

Well...it couldn't have been too recent if he wrote it.

Jack O'Connor has been dead for probably around 25 years and maybe more (if you are talking about the former gun editor for Outdoor life).

I get some pleasure from finding a relentlessly peaceful use for a combative looking knife.

Ah yes, Jack O'Connor, The man who single handedly "made" the Winchester model 70, and the .270 Winchester.

I recently acquired a whole liquor box full of old Outdoor Life magazines from the days when he was the shooting editor. I am working my way through his old articles little by little.

I guess at this point I would go for a Burris scope, Vasque or Sorel boots, depending on the weather, and a Spyderco Wegner.

Hello Again, The article was recent , but he did not write the entire thing. They did though quote from him at long length. He was , at the time I gather quite the hunting authority. Cya and Happy Holidays, JC
