I got to spend a lot of time with P.J. Tomes ABS MS, in fact he took me for BBQ at Sonny's two nights in a row. We had met back at one of the NY shows and I have two of his knives that are the best kitchen knives I could own. P.J. can do things with stag that nobody else can do, is it any wonder we became good friends? Over dinner one night we were discussing Bowies, (i.e. he talked and I listened as hard as I could) and we got to discussing the Tai Chee Bowies in ivory he had on his table and I asked if he had one in stag? He said no but would I be interested in one in jigged bone? I said I was, so the next day that knife went right from PJ's case to my belt, it never touched his table.

now how come i never got to handle this thing?!
very nice,phil,very very nice.

is the sheath a belt loop sheath,or the stud type sheath?

MO, I don't know how you missed it, it was hanging on my belt Sunday. The knife is about 11" OAL with a 6 1/2" blade. It has a nice sewn leather sheath with sewn belt loop.

Phil,
That's some funny looking stag

Sure is a nice blade though. Man, that thing looks FIERCE!!!

Geeze-um PhilL!
You're killin' me!
How do I get in your will????
That is a looker!
Does PJT have a website?
More important...will he be in NY in the fall? I was kicking myself for not grabbing one of the many small jigged bone blades he had on his table last year.
Insert slobbering, demented, foaming at the mouth smiley here!

PJ is not too shabby with mammoth ivory, either. I have one of his slip joint single-blade trapper models with CPM420V blade that almost disappears in the pocket. Beautiful, subtle deep blue, brown and cream ivory that is perfectly tailored to a nice, thin frame. Just the thing for a suit pocket.

One other thing about PJ's knives I like--they CUT.

Nice Tah Chee--Congrats!

Great knife, Phil. It looked good on you.

I must say, P.J.'s knives have a certain look and flair to them that makes them recognizable. Plus, they are so "clean".

I am sure that the Scagel style I picked up will be just the first of several.

Thanks for the comments guys. Blues you're right PJ's knives are clean, have their own style and a very affordable. PJ picked up the Blade award for most Innovative Folder two years in a row, he takes a classic pattern and makes something new that nobody has ever seen before. The more you know about knives the more you can appreciate what this man can do.
Will, the reason I mention stag is because it's my favorite handle material and also a passion for PJ. In the little two blade that won the award he got the stag down to the thickness of a piece of paper and kept the texture.
Ebb, PJ doesn't have a website in fact he has a computer, but so far hasn't plugged it in. He did ask if I would do some graphics for him and help him setup a website. I hope he decides to make it to NYC in Nov. We've been talking about a very special folder project.

Phil,
You picked up some great knives at the Show, but to top that you picked knives from people who made the experience even better.
I wish we were doing it all over again today

. It does not seem that is has been a week since it started.

I am glad I had the chance to meet you and mess with your new toys.

Gus, right back at ya Pal, it was great meeting you.
What is so mind boggeling to me about the knife community is how quickly a FNG (which I still consider myself to be) can be accepted. It wasn't until 1998 that I discovered Custom Knives, and now I can go to a show and not only know who many of the makers are, but they know me and call me by name. Added to this is that I'm a street kid from Brooklyn and a bit of a wiseguy, and yet folks have treated me like a Good Ol' Boy and not like one of the Sopranos

The joy of my custom and handmade knives is that they were mostly made by friends. I've got to meet in person all of the makers whose knives I own with one exception Mike L6 Cooper. The only problem now is I'm firends with more Knife makers than I will ever be able to afford.
I booked this trip to Blade when I didn't even have a job and I doubted I would be able to buy even one knife. As it happened Fortune smiled on me and I had some cash to make some purchases. But, I know this would have been the best weekend of my life even if I didn't come home with anything. I went to be with the people, and Gus you're a prime example of what makes this community great.

To you Gus and all my friends here I thank you.

You said it brother I hate that feeling too and yes it is the only problem. If it helps any Phil, they will still be open to friendship even if you do not buy a knife from them

. There are way to many makers, some of them contribute here, whose work I would like to have, but my wallet and direction of my collection (daggers and slip joints) keeps me from picking them up.

The same goes for users. There are great ones being made all the time, but when you have enough to not carry the same one for a month it gets harder to substantiate another one.
