about to pull the trigger on a new forge. Never tried forging and want to try some basic Damascus and San mai work. Is the 3 burner worth the extra money?

Need more info, have no idea what forge your talking about.

You only need one burner unless you have a need for length. Check out Atlas Knife and Tool. I have the Graham model, and I’ve done damascus and san mai in it. He now has a blacksmith model that is even friendlier on the wallet and has the benefit of setting you up for a flux resistant floor. Whichever forge you go with, plan to do some general forging for a bit before jumping into forge welding.

The Majestic is a simple box forge. I would suggest the three burner Deluxe model, as it allows the burners to be adjusted or shut down individually.

I have allways had an infatuation with the little NC knifemaker forge. I’m not sure why considering I have an amazing forge. But still to this day when I see it, it stirs somthing inside me from my past. I think it was from watching Jim Hrisoulas and his Damascus VHS over and over and over. I ended up loaning the tapes out to someone and never got it back. Then last year for Christmas my wife got me the videos on DVD. Man did it bring memory’s back from 17 years ago. So yeah that forge will allways hold a special place in my heart, if for no other reasion then that.

Here is the forge I’m talking about.

I have run a Whisper Lowboy by NC Forge for 20 straight years. It is an amazingly good forge. I have several others, but it is my go-to forge.
I just gave my NC Knifemaker forge to my son-in-law, Steve. It is basically a taller version of the Lowboy with an end door. It belonged to Ron Frazier and who knows how many knives he made in it over the many years.

Dave asked about the Majestic, and it will definitely do the job ... just ask anyone from FIF.

Thanks guys. I ordered the majestic. This is my first attempt at this, and the majestic seems fairly price friendly and will be a good start.
