Has anyone here heard of a maker named Grant ? He is from the north eastern part of the country.

I will post some pics .
Thanks Gary

Here are some pics of my Grant Knives ! The irregularities on the blades are just reflections, these things are seriously polished.

This is a pic of the handle it is burl with engraved brass gaurd and pomel ,The word is he scavenges brass/bronze boat props .He does EVERYTHING by hand!

Here is his 'small knife' he made for me this is the second one he sent me.....for free! I told the go between that I'd like a small stainless knife ! It has a whale bone handle and is made from 440c . They are razor sharp
including the entire top edge on the big one and the 'small knife'

Here is the marking on the 'bread knife'

You can see my reflection in the blade two pics up, the polish on these in incredable ! All by hand

This on is just to show scale

I bought the biggest one in a pawn shop just because I recognized hand polishing ! I ran into a guy at a gun show who had a few Grants on display .I struck up a conversation he knew Grant, he handled all sales for Grant . He told me abit about Grant . I wrote Grant to tell him I thought his big knife was the equal to my Randall . He liked the letter so much he sent me the 'bread knife' with my name on it . Then I asked if "Grant ever made small knives" the go between who lived in Boulder calls me up and tells me Grant is making me a small knife ...... it came in the mail . It is the whale bone handled one also with my name on it !

WOW two free custom knives ! The go between told me that since Grant refuses to join the Guild so he got no coverage . I haven't seen the go between in 10 years . I guess the man and his work will remian a mystery
Thanks For Looking
Gary

I never heard of Mr. Grant.

The knives have very nicely proportioned, and from the photos, nicely finished blades.

His choice of handle materials is top notch and his fitting looks to be very good.

His design skills are a bit rough. The way the guards are shaped, with a massive cross section, is inelegant and does the finished product an injustice. His soldering leaves some seriously cobby lines.

Mr. Grant would do well to study the form of Bob Loveless or some other published maker to find for himself areas that would benefit from refinement.

Considering that you have two free knives, it would benefit you to reach out to Mr. Grant and provide him with some much needed feedback.

Best Regards,

I have never heard of Mr. Grant either, but based on your story, I'd say he makes his knives as a labor of love and gets great satisfaction from doing nice things for people. Sounds like a great man, and I hope I cross paths with him some day.

You are lucky to be the recipient of those nice knives.

Paul

I picked up my first GRANT blade at the Louisville national gun day show a few months ago, I like it just had little info on it.
