Last week my wife and I set out for a few days in the mountains just south of San Jacinto Peak. We hiked out from Humber Park near Idyllwild on Devil's Slide trail.

My wife leading the way.

View to the north of Devil's Slide.

Saw plenty of these little guys.

Not sure what these are but they were all over the place too.

We spent the first night in the Skunk Cabbage area.

I played with some tarp setups to pass the time, since I couldn't play with fire.

Water source number one.

It was a pretty comfortable night without any extra layers

Day 2 we took our time with breakfast and breaking down the camp. Then we relocated to the Tahquitz zone. We staged our main packs and set out with a lighter load to head up Tahquitz Peak.

A short portion of the trail to the lookout was on the PCT

The view from the top was great, even if it was a little hazy. You could make out the desert to the northeast.

At the top is an old Fire Lookout

The trail back down sure was easier.

Saw some deer right before we got back to our packs.

Set up the tent, then stepped off to find some more water.

This creek was just down the trail.

The next morning, all packed up and ready to hike out.

Whether its on the ground or in the air, there is something to be said for looking down at clouds.
