I am used to carrying big knives like the GB2, RSK, Contego, Sebenza, SHF, etc. I make fun of VG10 and other non supersteels. . I think this means that I am turning into a knife snob. In order to rein in these tendencies, i am carrying a Spyderco Dragonfly for this 3 day weekend. I will do all my usual knife stuff with it. I grabbed my smallest multitool and light to go with it. 20230923_082024.jpg

I carry a dragonfly solo sometimes and it has handled everything with ease. Particularly for work or water like pool parties.
I think you maybe pleasantly surprised.

I agree. I live at the beach and I’m around water all the time. The dragonfly is a perfect pool/beach/river knife or really anything where lightweight clothing/gear is needed. When I am at home, hanging around, an H1 Dragonfly is what’s clipped to the pocket of my gym shorts. You’ll hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

I dragged the mower up to our cabin formthe last mowing of the year. The mowers battery is getting weak and I wont replace it until spring. I forgot the jump pack so i had to push the mower off the trailer and find some leftover wiring from the garage to make some very sketchy jumper cables with the dragonfly. It did fine and I got it mowed.

And I opened some boxes.

The Dragonfly is an EDC MVP. It is often a secondary carry during jacket weather, and sometimes a primary carry on Spyderco Saturdays. It is extremely capable for its EDC footprint.

While I don't really have a problem with VG-10, the budget knife market has exploded and this one has only gotten more expensive. Both for the people who love this knife now and the people who might try it tomorrow, I'd love to see it in a premium stainless. Sure, there have been sprint runs and you can get a pink one in S30V. I'd be all about one in MagnaCut, S45VN, or even SPY27.

That goes double for the Wharncliffe, since that's my Dragonfly of choice.

I carried that exclusively for years after my Al Mar SLB blade snapped. It has gimping in all the right places, and that horrible handle is brilliant when you actually use the thing.

So I survived the weekend. I used it again today to trim some invisible sheild as I installed it on our metal roof which it did superbly, being nimble and slicey. I still prefer a bigger knife, the GB2 will go in my pocket tomorrow. But the Dragonfly is a great little knife.
