If I new how to cut and paste the story I would.Anyway their in a fire when a parachute drops down upon them in the darkness and tangles up in their air packs, masks and boots. They don't know whats trapping them its like a bungee cord is holding them back. They become more and more tangled in it standing on part of it while trying to push the rest off them.
3 of them are trapped by something in the darkness while their air is running low.Brother firefights make it to them and have to feel in the dark to cut whatever is holding them with their knives, they made it out in time, just barly all 3 went to the hospital in various levels of consciousness.

The parachute was hanging from the ceiling as a decoration. And I'm trying to find out the knives used.In 2 hours I go to work, with a BM 710 clipped to my uniform pants and a Spyderco Rescue clipped to my bunkers, cause man you just NEVER know.

Opps this happend in Syracuse Ny Easter sunday.

A scary story. Very good to learn all 3 were more or less okay.

Interesting that there were no details on the knives the other firefighters used to cut the trio loose. Followed the shopping link. No knives, the Leatherman Micra, and 3 POS knockoff multi-tools.

Makes me very curious as to what is standard, or common, firefighter carry on the job. Would assume that knives would have to be big enough to be used with heavy gloves. Or do most firefighters carry knives?

Bugs3x,in my dept. I would say maybe 1/3 to 1/2 carry some kind of folder. The problem is its often left in your uniform pants pocket when you put your bunkers on over them making access hard at a fire scene.

Of course the 6 guys in my company all carry a good folder(or maybe even 2).But they are influenced by a knifenut

We carry Benchmade,Spyderco,CRKT,Gerber ect. This is also rare,as most guys carry whatever they got, maybe a sak,a pos knock off you name it.

I don't think any folder can be used well with our gloves on.The gloves are very thick, they get wet often and are dryed by throwing on top of a heating pipe,or hot water tank, making them stiff. You don't really grip an axe handle or ladder rung, you kind of half grip and pinch them between your thumb and stiff fingers.

Yes I have gone to that shopping link also and could not believe there was not any knives. But then again its a market pretty much over looked by the knife companies also.I mean there is a Police and military model, buck deputy,The Rescue,The Land and Sea ect. However in the near future you may see that change as I have been talking with a knife co. that may just try to fill the void.
