I'm looking for a new folder with a 3" or less blade. I have most of the current Spydercos that I want in this range. Would like to try something a little different. Maybe a David Boye? Or maybe I should just wait for the new Spydies to come out, or get a Merlin. I prefer non-metallic handles and would like to keep it under $100. Any ideas?

If you shop around, you can probably find the Benchmade 705 for under $100. Solid knife, great locking mechanism. Blade is just under 3".

705 is allright, but they didn't scale it down from the 710 very well, it is fat and a bit bulky for it's short length. Needed thinner liner stock.

I like the 812 better in plain, non-serrated.

Spydie Tim Wegner Jr is a gem, albeit discontinued. Can find used.

Moving up in price:

William Henry spear point is great.
Reeve Small Sebenza is great, so is Umfaan (a bit small really).

How about a Medium plain-edge Clip-Point Cold Steel Voyager? I have one, and have found it to be an excellent knife, for WAY under $100.

What do you think of Mel Pardue's BM330 or BM850? I like 'em both... clean, simple, nice looking...and around $60..

If you want a smaller scale Axis lock, get the 770. It is a nice carbon fiber gents knife. A bigger blade around 3" is the CRKT Wasp by Howard Viele. It is a great looking knife. You might also want to check out a William Henry or William Henry Internaional; they are all great knives.

Check out the William Henry Evolution Series--Blade Mags Knife of the Year and can be had for just over $100. Comes with a neat leather slipcase with integral clip.

For under 3" I'd recommend the BM 705, 770, 350; just over 3" are 812 & 690- all very nice knives. But WH would probably be the absolute nicest (that I've seen) at about 3" & $100. If you look around, you can also find an MT mini-Socom for around $100.

Paul,

From your posts, I see you're as avid a Spyderco fan as I. Even as such, I recently acquired a William Henry Evolution S05-GS. I was getting tired of "plain old."

The William Henry is a beautiful little knife that is perfectly executed in form, fit, and function. It sports a nicely polished 420J2 frame / linerlock with the prettiest G10 scales I've seen yet. The spearpoint blade is unbelievably sharp, flawlessly ground VG-10. The piece is assembled with highly polished stainless torx screws. There is absolutely no vertical or horizontal blade play in any position.

It fits well in the hand and pocket, as well as in it's accompanying clip sheath. The sheath for me, takes some getting used to, but it makes the knife unrecognizable as such and is comfortable to wear.

This knife bespeaks of elegance, yet performs like a woodsworthy, and trustworthy tool.

I have to agree with Maurice on the CRKT Mirage wharncliff. You cannot go wrong. In fact you could get a Mirage Grey Ghost and a Spyderco Calypso Jr. both for under $100 shipped. Both are great knives. I haven't owned a WH international series yet, but those also seem very nice. Benchmade AFCK's are also very good knives, but I would recommend only buying one from a retail store where you can inspect it for a centered blade. Enjoy! ...Ed.

Thanks guys. I'll have to check out the William Henry line. This isn't a purchase of need. I just got the itch to try something new.

I would suggest the MT mini SOCOM. They can be found for around $105 or so. Great little blade 3.1"
Very light and handy.

I have a BM 705 and I really like this knife. I would recommend it to anyone. You can find them for less than $100. Happy hunting.

Natives come in at just a hair over 3" which could be a legal problem in some areas. Do look into the Spyderco Delica, it is a wonderful knife for a VERY good price.

How about the Kershaw whirlwind? I have to say that I absolutely love this ken oninon design. I carry it everywhere. It has the torsion assisted opening but is not an automatic. It fits perfectly in the pocket and I only paid $48.00!

I agree with ARCHANGEL. The Spyderco Native would be a great choice for the small carry knife.
