Who likes French friction folders? 2 Cognet and 1 Savignac in my collections, all in horn. :eagerness:

Really nice knives you got there! I've recently become a huge fan of european traditional knives, and I've been trying to learn a bunch of different classic patterns. Some of my favorites come from france.

I love the curves and blade shapes! Reminds me of a scene with Diane Lane in Under the Tuscan Sun:D

Lovely knives. I'll have to investigate. Only French knives I have are a few classic Laguiole, all French made, of various makers..

 Nice blond horn on the Ariégeois. It derives closely of the capucin (the Cognets) a very old (XVIIIth cent.) shepherd's knife pattern. The name comes from the end looking like a hood as worn by the Capuchins monks (capuche # hood). The blade pattern is a sage leaf (feuille de sauge). It belongs to the "2 nails" (deux clous) family already used by the Romans.

Very nice. I've wanted one of the knives from Cognet for a long time. I haven't had a chance to handle the knives....Does the knife stay closed in a pocket or is it best to use a sheath?

The sheath is better to protect the horn, but no chance for the knife to open in the pocket, the axle is quite tight.

As Jolipapa answered, they stay closed. Tightness varies slightly with humidity levels throughout the year, horn swells and contracts ever so slightly.
