I am not sure what to call this thing, so suggestions are welcome
I don't know how many here also wander over to Jerzee Devil Forums...They are hosting a forum build and I decided to try something rather different, and I thought is would be cool to share my work here.
The forum colors are Red and Black, so that explains the color scheme.
I purchased and modified a naginata :ninja: blade. It is differentially hardened 5160, it shows a faint temper line.
Blade length is about 14" with a handle about 16" with an OAL of about 30"
It is almost full tang construction: the tang is about 14" long, so the handle extends about 2" past the tang. It is an oak core, epoxied into place with 6 brass pins. I then coated it with two layers of kevlar sleeving and one layer of basalt fiber sleeve. The turksheads are from red poly cord and are epoxied firmly into place.
Son of Fod and I were just "testing" it and this thing is a lot of fun.
It goes thru water filled bottles and aluminum cans with little effort. It chops wood like a golok on a stick. I can see this as a very handy addition to the camp kit. It is surprisingly tough and I see a lot of utility in it.
Or for boarding ships and clearing up between decks
irate: aaargh
What say ye?
