Hey guys

Im looking to buy a high-powered headlight for hiking/backpacking uses. Please note that the keyword here is high-powered.

I currently have a Petzl Tikka Plus that puts out 40 lumen. It enough to set up tent at night, cooking, etc, but im looking for something thatll illuminate the trail ahead when hiking at night.

Ive been looking at a used 100 lumen Surefire Saint, 140 lumen Petzl MYO RXP and a 130 lumen Princeton Tec Apex.

The Princeton is the cheapest at about 50$, the Petzl at 88$ and the Saint at 140$. The Petzl is new and boxed while the other 2 are used.

What do you guys say? Any experience with any of them? Which one would you go with?

Im leaning toward the Princeton cause of the price, although ive never had any experience with that brand. The SF is expensive AND runs CR123 batts which i dont like, but i like their quality. Ive a Z2, G2 and 6P which im very happy with. The Petzl is also nice but is it worth the extra cash over the Princeton?

Any preferences or inputs?

I have several headlamps and several of those are Petzls. I am currently using the MYO XP and think its a great lamp. I haven't used the RXP but can't imagine its differences are substantial. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I camp and hike at night, extensively, so it has had lots of use at night. Night hiking with snow on the ground is nothing. A light really shows its worth on nights when it is raining. Complete heavy blackness and any light you generate is absorbed in the forest by the trees, leaves and everything else. Try finding the blaze on the other side of the river on nights like those. We us to call those infantry nights. Couldn't see or hear anything. Pitch black and total white noise. That is when that light really shows its worth. Not saying that those others lights aren't good, just telling you my experiences with the one I still use.

I have two Princton Tec head lamps and have given a few as gifts, so the Apex has my vote. That little iTP sounds nifty too for the price. Got 2 iTP lights and am really happy with them.

I love my Zebralight H31
