Man!!..did i find a bargin tonight hopefully i just bought a 3 hp motor, single phase, 3450 rpm, thermally protected...but there are some things i`m not sure about..it says 230/115 volts, 12/24 amps..so does that mean i can wire it 115 volts?I don`t know much about that stuff but i couldn`t resist the price...are you ready?, this is hopefully for a grinder i`m making...are you ready...i got it for $20 bucks canadian!!!! and she looks like new!!

i need some input please tell me if it will be able to be used!!

How are you going to sleep tonight? I'd lay that motor down next to my pillow and snuggle with it.

That is a great motor and a great price!

Yes you can run it on 110V or 220V. At 220V it'll draw 12 amps and at 110V it'll draw 24amps. So you should select your electrical hardware accordingly. If you run it on 110, you'll need something like a #10 wire size to handle the current......then make sure the rest of the circut is equally as big (double check on the wiring size as I pulled that one out of the gray matter upstairs). If you choose run it at 220V then you cut the current in half and you can use smaller wiring plus have a noticable improvement in motor performance. Faster startups, more power, and the lights won't dim or fuses blow when you grind. My thoughts are to forget 110 and use 220V.

The name plate on the motor will have a schematic for the high/low voltage hook up.

Visit the local home hardware store and let them know what you are doing. They can fix you up with a fussed disconnect, a 220V breaker for your service, cable and advice.

Have fun with it and be safe.

Sincerely,

Good deal.Yes you can wire it for 115 volts,it is a dual voltage motor. It will work better at 230 volts but will operate fine on 115.Just make sure your circuit breakers can handle 24 amps or you will be blowing breakers all the time.Don't forget to add lights or dust collection equipment in if they are on the same circuit.Hope this helps,Dave.

well....no...i don`t think so..lol..i couldn`t pass that deal..at christmas i missed out on a sandblast cabinit for 39.95 the lady at the till said.."i....don`t think thats the right price..i`ll check with the manager. and as you guessed he said nope it`s 399.00..sorry we can`t sell it to you for what the tag says..it`s a missprint!....now that sucked!
so if any thing i`ll get my electrician buddy to put 220 in my garage and get this baby whistlin.....3hp isn`t too much is it...?oh yeah i also got 2 nice tapered idler wheels for it for 2 bucks each..nice units..real precision no wobble..no endplay..real smooth...drool guys..DROOL!!
