I really like my 0562 but I find in many situations its to large. What options are there for a 3 inch blade? Does ZT ever "shrink" models?

They have for some models but I don't think they were collaborations. You have to consider, how popular is the 3" XM-18? If ZT considered that version popular enough and RHK wanted it, there would be a 3" 0562.

0566 will be about that size @ 3.25". It carries much smaller than the 0562, it's actually one of my most carried and favorite ZT's. I don't care for assisted knives so removed the spring. It doesn't flip near as well as the 0562 but does have a detent and runs on washers. Once deassisted it flies opens with the studs/blade stops from the front or back. Being I'm pretty over flippers and use studs more it makes the knife one of my favs. I'm actually surprised by how much I carry it over some of my other knives, even my Hinderer's. It's a perfect do it all, don't care a lot EDC for the dirtier, girttier tasks where I don't want to use a 'higher end' knife. It's a little larger than a 3" Xm-18 which for my large hands is great as the 3" is just on the cusp of being too small, if not for the finger choil it probably wouldn't get used much at all. It fits right between the 2 XM sizes. A bonus is it's one of the least expensive ZT's you can get.

I recently picked one up and am really enjoying it. I may de-assist it sometime but I really love the size compared to a 0562 or my 0560. Unfortunately I think it is now discontinued.

I have been waiting for them to make this as well. I got my 'smaller paramilitary 2 wish' a few years ago - maybe we will get this wish sooner or later...

I don't know if KAI is willing to pay Rick Hinderer to license a smaller version (or a skinny version). They'd have to be sure there's sufficient demand for the new model to justify the licensing and tooling costs. Back when ZT first released the 0562, it was pretty much unanimously held to be higher quality than what Hinderer was putting out at the time; demand for a "better made" XM-18 was a no-brainer. Now that Hinderer is making knives that can arguably justify their cost and don't really , I have to imagine Rick would demand significantly more compensation for licensing rights that would allow ZT to undercut his own knives.
