So I met someone 2-3 weeks ago (ya....needed to post this for a while) to buy an Ithaca M37, and while I was waiting for him I decided to look around in a pawn shop that was right there. Well, as I was looking through their case of knives, I saw 2 interesting things, the first was a spyderco, a manix (xl, 2, etc...) variant, I didn't have enough money in pocket, and didn't know the exact model (don't know spyderco well) to know if they were ripping me off .

The second thing I saw in the case was interesting though. It was what appeared to be a leatherman PST. I asked to look at it, and it turned out to be a PST II, and the price tag said 3$! I very quickly said I'll take it, paid the man and made out like a bandit.

Now there is a catch for a 3$ leatherman. The tip of one of the plier halves was snapped off and they don't close evenly. I originally purchased this multitool to use as a donor to one of my other 2 regular PSTs because I wanted the scissors. Near as I can tell, someone tried using them for some turning something, my guess is they used them like a spanner wrench, put the tips of the pliers into 2 slots and twisted...hard

Now here comes my dilemma, the more I look at this PST II, the more I wonder if leatherman would fix it under warranty...I don't know if I will send it to them, but if I do, I will make sure it is known that I purchased them as a broken pair

anyways, here are some pictures

I actually prefer the old schoo PSTs to any of the new ones I have tried, I have a charge Ti somewhere that I got used for cheap too. I have 2 PSTs and this PST II.

I've actually got a PST riding on my belt now

Great find! If it were me, I'd just grind the nose of the pliers jaws down until they were even, and leave it at that. It would still make a great user, unless the mis-alignment of the closed jaws is so bad as to be unusable.

I bought an original Leatherman PST at the flea market here for $8. I love the first generation PST's - just the right amount of heft & size to do a lot of things well. I have a Charge TTi, which is a cool tool, but I still use the old PST's just as much.

Well I emailed Leatherman and asked about the tool being under warranty and made sure to say that I bought it as a broken tool, I just got an email back from them asking me to send it in for repair and that it will be covered under warranty. I never really expected this, but I am sure glad I decided to email.

I'll try to ship it out sometime in the next day or 2 and will update this thread whenever I get it back
