after 8 years of puffing, i'm proud to say that i i'm done smoking cigarettes. today it's been three months exactly. i've been told that after 3 days you "over it" and you stop thinking about smoking. this is complete BS (for me anyways)
...up untill last week or so, it was all that was on my mind. NOW i feel stupid that they had a hold of me like they did. i haven't completely stopped thinking about smoking, but i have reached the point where a cigarette does not sound appealing to me.

knowing that i'm done, yesterday i decided to buy myself a congratulatory present for all the stress i've been through.
thanks to Tooth & Nail, i'm going to be the proud owner of an unused GORGEOUS black, with black micarta scales Busse FFBM.
i absolutely can not wait untill it gets here!!!! stoooked! this will be my first Busse:)

...look out junglas there is a new chopper coming to the collection!

thanks again Tooth & Nail for walking me through my first bladeforums purchase.

p.s. im not "anti-smoking" so keep puffin if you enjoy it (i don't want to offend any smokers out there) ...i know how relaxing it is.
my throat just hurt toooo much, so i had to stop. i didn't think stopping would help, and occasionally i still feel a little pain, but overall my throat feels much better, i can run longer without getting winded. i also didn't think that what people said about tasting food better would be true, but it is... food tasts SOO much better now that i've quit.

It takes a while to get over the cravings, but it takes even longer to stop feeling stupid that you ever enjoyed smoking in the first place. :o

After smoking for 5 years, I quit cold turkey when I began dating the woman who is now my wife. I still think about smoking occasionally, but for the most part it just disgusts me.

Congratulations!

Frosty

Gongrats, quitting isn't easy. I've been on nicotine in one form or another for the last 25 years. Smoked for 15 years, chewed snuff for last 10. I've quit 3 times in the last 5 years. The 3 day rule is true for me. So to have 3 months under your belt is great. Relapsing is really easy. Good luck to you. Enjoy your new knife.

as a smoker I'm very happy for you and I know how it feels to conquer difficult things and feel that growth as a person, hope you enjoy the new Busse too!

You probably already know but it's best to keep away from people who are still smokers when they are going to do their thing, at the same time not ever making it seem like you possibly look down on them for not also quitting.

thanks everyone for your supportive comments!!!

IM SUPER STOKED TO GET MY BUSSE!
maybe people that read this can post pics of their FFBMs to get me even more excited (if thats possible) lol

i tryed to reply with quotes and i think the first time it didn't work, so if this appears twice im sorry.

true that. this will be very hard for me because my mom, her husband, most of my family, and just about all my friends (except my girlfriend) are smokers. i don't want them to think i believe i'm "better then them" in any way for quitting. i know it was just a personal goal for me.

Congrats! That means more knife money!

I don't think I would be able to give up Mountain Dew..

lol, i'm trading one addiction for another... i think my knife collection is going to grow exponentially now that i'll have more money

Congrats SLM. I've been a smoker for almost 25 years. I've quit a few times before and the old adage "don't quit quitting" is true. I wish you all the best.

My wife and I decided it was time to quit again in January of this year. We're about four months smoke free and have learned some valuable lessons from past attempts to quit. Some of them lasted more than a year.

1, DO NOT think that a cigar or pipe will be harmless and will not knock you off that wagon. It will and when you least expect it. Consider your addiction the same as alcoholism.
2, Smoking does not always cause cancer. It does cause your arteries to lose elasticity. If you's like an at-rest heart rate of 100 BPM, by all means, light up.
3, When I started smoking cigarettes were under $1/pack. At the current price of $6+ my wife and I were smoking a new car every six years or a lease payment on a $30K vehicle. The Busse is nice but look at your annual savings and don't lie to yourself.

All the best to you and congrats. Keep at it.

congratulations on you and your wife's four months!
i appreciate the the tips, i had never done the math on how much i'll be saving... but 30k in six years for a pack a day? geeez that makes me feel even more stupid that i smoked for eight years. i could have some nice stuff. you don't see it going fast because it's such a small amount at a time. but dang it adds up...

i hope you and your wife keep it up aswell!

thanks
take care

I, like you smoked for 8 years. And just celebrated a year without cigs on the 12th of april - and i think about them every god damn day - but if S ever Hits the fan, first thing im going for is a carton of parliments.
But keep it up!!

That didn't come out as clear as I thought it would. It wasn't $30K in six years.

To clarify, I could have bought a Ford Focus (@ $15K sticker) or leased at loaded Fusion (@ $28K sticker, which we are doing now for the same $250+/month we dropped on smokes) every two or three years for the coin we spent on cigarettes.

Between the wife and I we were at a carton/week with an additional pack here and there so I figure I was right around $60/week. You're right. Tacking a pack or two onto your debit card when you fill your tank doesn't seem like much. When you add it up and realize you are smoking an AR-15 every three months it starts to set in.

In the past four months I've got my wife into the 2012 Fusion I mentioned and bought myself a Thompson Center Encore 50cal with all the add-on's. I'm not breaking records for dollars saved by any means but it is nice to see a new car in the drive and not dropping some lung butter in the AM.

If you ever feel like you need some support, drop me an e-mail at my screen name at gmail .com and I'll remind you what you could have for the price of a pack of smokey treats.
