3 PM's / 3 Different Actions

I've got 3 different PM2's, and they each have different actions. I'm wondering if those who have the same PM2 models as me have noticed the same thing. All 3 have rock solid lockup, with zero blade play.

S110V: Silky smooth right out of the box. The absolute smoothest PM2 I've ever handled. Free dropping/swinging blade when the lock is disengaged.

S35VN: Exactly the same as the S110V model, but not free dropping/swinging. Very smooth action. When disengaging the lock, I can gently shake the blade back into the handle.

S30V (DLC): Almost the same as the S35VN, but it takes a little more effort. I think that's due to the slight amount of extra friction from the DLC.

My Spydies are by far the smoothest knives I own. Anyone else have similar experiences with the same model PM2's as what I have?

Thx for the input guys.

Same for me. I've owned over a dozen and they all vary. My S35VN is the best one I have owned in terms of action, and the S110V has been excellent as well. The more recent runs seem to have better action in my experience. All my DLC model have much less smooth action, ostensibly because of the friction created by the coating. I agree though, the action of the PM2 models in general is my favorite of any knife I've owned. I am really looking forward to the Sliverax; a comp lock on bearings will be a thing of beauty.

Hi,

Same here.

2 times PM2 all black. 1 of them I bought used.

Both have good action but feel not the same.

Para3: Standard, S110V, cru-wear.

Cru-wear: free drop from the first second.
S110V. Stiff, but gets better every week.

For me that's logic that each spyfie is different. There are tolerances, different steel, different amount of lubrication, different level of dirt and usage.

Bye ric

Thanks for the info, guys. To be fair, the S110V has been opened and closed a lot more than the others. I'll carry the other two more and play with them and I'm sure they'll loosen up a bit. Slightly off topic, but I really like the brown scales on the S35VN. I think they're unique, while some others really don't like them.

My S110V has been a silky smooth free faller as well.

My S35VN was close, but not the same.

Satin blade black handle S30V was stiff and took some adjustment, but was still never on the level of the S110V.

Satin blade camo handle S30V was similar to the S35VN.

Black blade black handle S30V was on the same level as the S110V. Just a straight laser both ways, rock solid, falls free so fast you have to watch yourself.

Overall, I agree, they definitely have different action. I think most can be adjusted to within a pretty close range, but I just feel that there are some out there are incredibly buttery no matter what (short of abuse, of course).

This is my only peeve with the PM2. The action is so finicky. Every single PM2 I've owned has had different action. Some have been silky smooth right of of the box, while there were others I could never get the sticky lock to go away.

I know these are production pieces and every knife is slightly different, but it seems most noticeable on the PM2. Maybe it's because it's the only knife I rely on a free falling blade for it to close.

Got my first PM2 (s30v) in 2014, it did not free swing but it was nice and smooth. My Second was in 2017 in the same steel and it free swings and is even smoother.

I have three, and all are slightly different. At the price point, it doesn't bother me that much - as long as the action is 'good', I'll let it be 'different'. They can have their own personalities as long as they are good personalities.
