My current EDC is a Spyderco Calypso Jr. with a PE and I'm looking to get something of a similiar size with a SE for the times that I need it. I was looking at a Spyderco Delica in VG-10 or the new ZDP-189 one that is coming out soon or a Salt 1 (ill be working around concrete a lot and its nice to not have to worry about corrosion). Right now I think ill go for the Salt 1 because I like the steel and the yellow handles are great. Also im going to be buying the ZDP Caly Jr. anyways when its available. I was wondering if there are other good options I havent consider, I'm looking to spend around $50 for a 3" blade and it doesnt have to be spyderco; also I dont really want metal handles (but suggest them anyways i'll take a look) otherwise FRN/G10/micarta etc is fine.

Thanks,
Lyle

Delica would be my first choice (I like its pointy tip over the Salt's). But the Salt has a stronger tip and it's quite corrosion resistant (not that VG-10 would be bad in this matter itself). And I heard that serrations work great with H1.

I love Spyderco knives so don't take this wrong. My EDC since buying it is a Salt 1 SE but I wish Spyderco would slightly alter their serrations just a bit so they cut more than they grab, pull and stick as you slice with them. Just my observation from using my Delica and Salt 1 SE knives after owning and using many Cold Steel and Benchmade SE knives to compare to.

Personally when it comes to serrations that I have in my own personal collection I think many companies could take lessons on Benchmades serrations. Please don't think I'm trying to stir up a flame war. I'm just stating my own honest observations. I think BM makes the best serratted knives out there at this time. Just my .02 worth.

I don't think so. They should still cut instead of move what you are trying to cut all over the place making it hard to hold it still. Try a Benchmade serratted knife and then compare. You'll see what I mean. They just seem to cut instead of grab and pull. I think Spydercos older serratted knives from the early years (like my old integral clip SE Delica from 1992 ) cut better than the newer ones do. Again, just my observations.

I have to say the same is true to some extent with Cold Steel also. Their new serrattions with the smaller teeth seem to grab more than their older style serrattions did and the small teeth on their new serratted knives break off too easy. I've broken them off cutting electrical wire and again on wrapping ribbon when I opened a Christmas gift wrapped with a ribbon that had a small wire in it to keep the shape of the bow. Completely blew me away the way a very small ribbon wire broke off teeth on and AUS8A blade.

I should have said that suggestions from other manufacterers were fine. The only problem is they don't make many innexpensive models and I dont like the thickness/look of the mini-grip.

Another question... anyone know if the ZDP delica will be available in SE and how ZDP will perform in SE vs. VG-10 (im a materials engineer so I like my fancy steels).

thanks!

What's a ZDP Delica? Am I out of the loop again?

Spyderco serrations cut better than any I've ever used. Yeah, they may not be as smooth as some, but they will hold up better than any! Spyderco wants their serrated knives to be able to cut through anything.

As far as another SE knife, the Delica is great, Native not sure, but I say go bigger and get an Endura. It really isn't that big, feels just right to me bc it's so light! :)

sweeeeet :D when is spyderco releasing an Endura with this stuff?

no plans that I know of; Just a Calypso Jr. with a burgundy handle and a delica with a blue handle.
