Hi guys, we've had this thread a million and one times, but just wanted to check if there are any new opinions ;)

I'd like to get a chuck it in the suitcase knife around the 3" mark for under $50. At this stage I'm leaning towards the Delicia (waved). What do you think? Should I just go with the normal one. Any other suggestions (Benchmade 550?)

Greg

Unless you're considering a serrated Delica, I'd go with the waved over non-waved. Other knives I'd consider:

Kershaw Leek (4th)
Camillus Blaze (4th also)
Benchmade Monochrome (3rd)
Spyderco Salt 1 (close 2nd pick)
Spyderco Centofante 3 or 4 (1st pick)
Byrd Crow
Byrd Meadowlark

In most places outside the US a SAK would probably be the best way to go. In the US a Spyderco Native would be a good choice, but there are hundreds of knives would fill the bill.

If you are looking for a utility knife for light chores and legal everywhere in the world, you should tru a douk douk. Hell, for $50, you could buy five of them.

It is the only knife I took for my last vacations (three weeks in Thailand) and it was good enough.

pros : cheap, extral thin, sharp, carbon steel very easy to sharpen.
cons : slip joint, fugly

The Spyderco Delica 4 with a 2.88" blade of VG-10 steel and a price of around $43 at the Internet dealers would be my choice. Indeed, ithas been my choice.

Here's some suggestions from a spreadsheet I made for myself of sub-$50 folders. The stuff below if with blades from 2.7" to 3.2". My spreadsheet is sorted via either mfr or blade length.

I only travel with hole-opening knives. My two go-to knives for packing in a suitcase are a Spyderco Native and a BM Griptilian. I thread a cable-style gunlock through the blade holes, and lock them securely to the frame in my suitcase. I learned my lesson about just throwing a knife in a suitcase. I lost my old Benchmade 705 that way. Stupid TSA thieves went through my suitcase, then through my shaving kit to get the knife.
