hey All,

so ive been searching for a 2nd folder to carry about and have been cycling between several. Ive been able to narrow it down to 3 blades but am conflicted on which one to get. and sadly i dont have the $$ for all three.

My Ive narrowed it down to:
  1. brous silent soldier flipper
  2. curtiss nano
    or
  3. wait for another alan davis folder to pop up

What are y'alls suggestions??

I've been looking at the Brous SS Flipper as well - so I'm curious about peoples experience with it. Everything I've seen and read about it thus far has been leaning towards the positive.

The Brous is a well built knife. I had one of the earlier liner lock models. Unfortunately it's a like it or hate it design. It looks nice but in actual use it's not that great. The long flipper makes it very difficult to use the whole blade and you end up relying on about the forward half of the blade. It also has a rather short cutting edge. Like I said, the construction of the knife was very nice, but it was just too awkward in use. YMMV.

I would take the Nano out of your current choices. Good luck getting a Davis folder.

Alan Davis knives look nice, the nano is small, and I'm not sure about brous? Why not put on the exchange (looking to buy) Alan Davis framelock I'm guessing.

I use to have one of the older models but sold it so i could afford the Burch V2.

Is the Nano really too small for use? & I have been scouting the sellers page, waiting for the right one. Unfortunately His books are closed, so the post stalking is the next option

While the Nano is small, I don't think it's too small to be an effective edc, depending on your intended purposes of course.

Contact Alan Davis and see what he has that may be ready to go up for sale. He may be getting one ready or already have one ready. His knives are AWESOME! Good Luck! Kevin

+1 for Davis.
I have one of his knives; just posted a review.
If you check his site you'll see he makes some wharncliffe-style folders that might fit what you're looking for.
I really like drop points, but trying my brother's wharncliffe almost converted me to that style for daily use.
A custom knife is worth the wait.

Thanks! Too bad about the 1 year wait. I think I received my knife from Davis only 2 months after confirming the order. But that was one year ago. Business must have picked up for him!-

If you're willing to add another possibility into the three way tie, I wonder if it would be worth considering Phil Tham; according to his website he still takes custom orders, and his prices seem reasonable.
Or one of the South African knifemakers, such as Willem Steenkamp, or Burger knives. Their knives seems to be well-respected, and their prices also are reasonable. They sometimes are available in the states, though you could probably order direct from maker.

Best of luck!
