Probably be about right for a Buck 110 or similar size knife. Really great work!

Very nice! Is the backside (inside the pouch) of the belt loop rivit exposed?

Thanks,

Bucks would look nice in them for sure ;) Its a press stud for removing the pouch without taking the belt off. Its is secured inside with leather.

Mat,

Do you make a blank to fold the leather around? It looks like you used a wood block or something to make these with? I would like to make one a lot like this for my brothers Leatherman - any advice in making these would be great. I REALLY like the strap retainer. It is simple and elegant.

NICE

Hey Mat -- If you don't mind sharing your methods, I've always wondered how stuff like this is formed and put together too. I've tried a few things, but haven't stumbled across the right way yet. -- Thanks, Phil

Hey,

The "tops" are wet formed. A use anything I can find that meets the dimentions of the knife. This time it actually was a piece of wood. Sometimes I use the knife itself and form around it.

The main idea is to wet the leather (not soak, two passes udner running water is enough) let it dry few minutes and start working on your shape. When you get the general shape, leave it and let it dry a bit. After few minutes form again. Repeat until you get the desired form. Why the breaks? Wet leather is soft and you can form it and streatch it but it wont keep the shape for too long. You need to keep forming as it dries. For forming, I use mainly my fingers (no press) and smooth antler tip. - table spoon will do ;) KEEP YOUR NAILS SHORT !

When its dry, you glue it to the back piece that will also form the flap. Depending on the desing, you might have to sew in the belt lopp first and then glue the top.

@TF - for leatherman you can start forming around it (provided you wont have the clip on) and then smooth the shape as the leather dies.

Thanks Mat! I'll give that a try. I suspect it will likely be one of those cases where knowing how and being able might take a while to sync up.
