in the 3 years there has been a lot of information posted for anyone to read that wants to get started using the paper wheels. its free for anyone to read even lurkers that are not even registered users.

i have a request for all of the registered users that have read my paper wheel thread and learned how to use them. i am asking you to show your support for spark having the forum that allowed me to put down all the information contained in the thread.

THE REASON I STARTED THIS THREAD WAS TO ASK REGISTERED USERS TO BUY A MEMBERSHIP AND HELP SUPPORT BLADEFORUMS.

spend at least $10. for a basic membership and become a paying member of bladeforums so others can continue to learn from all of the information posted all over the forum.

I just want to say Thank You, richard j for starting the thread about the paper wheels. When I first read that thread, and for a couple years after, I wasn't even a member here. I bought my wheels and buffer maybe two weeks or so after you started the thread and once I got the hang of it, I have not had the need for another sharpener. The paper wheels have solved all of my sharpening problems and I probably would not have known about them if not for your thread. They are rarely, if ever, discussed on the other forums that I visit. It was the title of the thread that caught my attention three years ago.

For me personally, it is an enormous relief to know that I can sharpen my knives anytime with excellent results and none of the frustrating problems I used to have with other methods.

Many, many thanks richard j! I have benefitted more from your thread than any other thread on any forum anywhere.

Paper wheels intrigued me, but here they're pricey, so I made a Wood one, works fine :)

There we go , ---Edited--- (I dont see how wood makes it dangerous, the only difference is what the wheel material is and the machine powering it- buy ohkay)

travis, what you posted is dangerous and could get someone seriously injured or killed. if you want to do something like this have at it but please dont post stuff like this for some kid to read that might not know any better. i dont want to read in the paper about some kid who lost an eye or worse from trying something like this. please edit out your post asap.

Paper wheels are not really more expensive than anything else that is used in a knifemaking shop and are worth the investment. They do help reduce the amount of time needed for sharpening.

If I could up my membership and support you I would and may be able to in the future. I definitely believe the paper wheel thread should be a sticky....not to the exclusion of any other method but there are a large number of us using those wheels. Thank you Richard.

there was another similar thread and i seen 2 knives that were done on the diy contraption. both knives had stickers on the handle saying "danger, these knives are sharp" one was a busse game warden and i was rubbing the blade which was duller than a butter knife on my wrist and the member who owned the knife was watching me and laughing.

I can't wait to try out the paper wheel. I haven't got around to it yet as my sharpening skills are very novice. But I've been getting more and more interested in putting very sharp edges on my knives and from what I read paper wheels is the way to go.

I for one would like to thank you Richard for showing me the ways of the paper wheels.
Once you own a set you will never return to the "stone age", Just my .02

THANKS RICHARD!!!!!!!!

I'd suggest we even ask Spark to rename the forum to the Paper Wheel Forum.

dslteck, lets hope that everyone who has "left the stone age" shows their support and gets at least a basic membership. i think the information found in the paper wheel thread is well worth the $10.

OH yes it is and then some! I agree with you 100%!!!
Give me a call when you can I have an idea brewing :D

I'm not saying that I have all or any of the answers but Rk is right. There has to be a way to encourage / prod people to do the right thing. I'm not saying that everybody is walking around with tons of extra cash. But most of us have some disposable income.
Skip one or two trips to McDonald's and you are a basic member at least.

I'm just sayin'.....

i'm bumping this for the registered users who have read my paper wheel thread and bought the wheels.

PONY UP FOR A $10. MEMBERSHIP. I'M SURE THE INFO FOUND IN MY PAPER WHEEL THREAD IS WELL WORTH A MEMBERSHIP :D

whats wrong with you registered users????? get busy sharpening your friends knives and come up with $10. :D
