30 Most Influential People in Blade History

I'm kinda disappointed they left out blade influential person #1: Og, the caveman. ;) (The invention of knives did not start with "that" magazine in my history book).

Og was a shameless rip-off artist!

His shale knives were a blatant forgery of the higher-quality flint knives sold by Lurg. Where were the men (or proto-men) of honor back then?

Can you tell that the mail carrier hasn't delivered that issue to me yet? :)

How about "Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of bronze and iron" Genesis Chapter 4 verse 22. I'll bet he wasn't on the list, either.

Bet I'm not in there either. :D

I've noticed that the editing staff goes way out of its way to avoid making reference to bladeforums.com

What's the deal, Kevin?

They always refer to it as "an online knife forum" - even when it's clear they're talking about bladeforums.

Since when did anybody say, "Just got me a new pair of basketball shoes"...more like -> "Man, I got these cool Nikes/Reeboks/Adidas/Whatever..."

There's too much emphasis on brand recognition marketing nowadays.

Shame on Blade Magazine for following suit and avoiding the word "bladeforums.com"

Now, please excuse me while I turn to page 112 and read about Bruce Bump...:D

I thought the list looked a little self-serving as well too. I just get it for the pretty pictures anyway, and the occasional informative article about something I haven't already heard about on BF. It kills me when they review a 'new' knife that I've already read 5 reviews of and seen used examples for sale here for 4 months prior. The pictures make up for it though, and I do like Ed's column a lot.

That POS dude from China you refer to happened to be named Ghengis Khan. Used big knives all over the known world, and didn't snivel over spilt anything. Direct descendent of Og, Lurg, and Tubal-Khan.

I am always amused at how the knife magazines don't deal with online knife forums much. yeah, you can look up websites of the knives featured in knife magazines, and i remember an article about online knife dealers. But I don't recall anything about Bladeforums.com the cool knife site to learn about knives at, or knifeforums, or the USN, or CKD, etc. I know that the knife world is much bigger than the interned, but these forums are a REAL innovation in knifedom. Here's one example. Whenever I make a knife (I am a hobby maker), I usually get help from at least half a dozen makers. I have talked with Rob Simonich, Trace Rinaldi, Jerry Hossom, Kit Carson, Tim Herman, and many others. I have also talked with Paul Bos and Chuck Bybee andPhil Wilson, all thanks to Bladeforums.com I am a "nobody from nowhere", yet I am so connected with giants that I get to benefit from. And that is just one humble example. I'd like to see more in the knfie mags about the forums for sure.

That said, I haven't seen the top 30 list myself either. But from past knife mags that do top whatevers, I always find that my list is always different, sometimes significantly. Take these lists as soemthign to have fun with and think about, not as knifedom cannonical material ;)

I believe that the knife industry is still growing. At whatever "rate" I don't know, or presume to know. What would the industry be like if the I-net was not here for our use ? Exactly, probably similar to before 1990-93 ish when word of mouth, a few magazines, and some shows were how info was spread.
Nowadays, BAM, it's all out here for anyone, 24/7/365 !! Ain't in grand. At some point, the mags will have to do a better job of recognizing forum web sites (BF, USN, whatever), or they may just lose subscriptions. Why, 'cause I can get just as much, if not more info in a flash, faster than I can from any mag. AND, it's about the knife I want to know about, not what the mag writes about. Although the pics are very nice. Maybe the mags should start a colum about a certain knife maker / company AND their web site, including the qaulity of pics, etc. That might get the makers and companies to take care of their web sites more often. How about a mag writer, on company time, joining a forum thread, then writing about said thread in the next issue or so ??
Don't get me wrong, I do like to get my monthly/bi-monthly Blade and TK (esp. TK), but not crediting forum sites can backfire.
Yes, I do enjoy Fowlers article, also.
Geez, my "brain cells depleted light" is flashing, no more, must go.
