Why does it take a 30 second wait to change between say the user CP functions for things like searching user posts, and then switching to the 'new post' function.

Sometimes it gets hung up on the computer, and the best way is to simply log out and then log back on.

That's not happening to the rest of us. Do you have a slow net connection? A ten year old computer?

The computer is just over one year old. I have windows XP 64 bit proffessional and a regular DSL connection. I have found that the XP 64 bit program doesn't work with all programs, it is probably their way of getting folks to upgrade to vista. Microsoft has had millions of patches coming in. I am not too familiar with working with computers I am really not too sure what to do or how to trouble shoot these things.

The AVG anti virus seems to do its thing, and I am also running Surf Secret. I turn the computer on and I just hope it works, that is about all I really know about computers at this point.

Are you getting a message telling you to wait 30 seconds? If so, it's because new posts function is also a search and you can only do new searches every 30 seconds.

Yes this is exactly what is happening. So it may not be my machine, but just the way things do work. Thanks.

FYI, It's not hanging, it tells you how much time you have left, before you can search again - on the right hand side.

Please try again in n seconds:

Boy, it's a good thing we have Nordic Viking to explain things the moderators don't know about vBulletin.... Thanks, NV!

Now he's explained it I can understand it -- it's a security measure. Searching takes up a lot of resources and if there were no limit a hostile person could run a bot to keep starting new searches and hog all the resources so no one else could use the forums.
